Right. I was just talking about last night. And n, no games have been stolen this year as far as I can recall. Then again, did they steal any last year, despite playing better? It seems like all their best performances (shutouts etc) were in games the Flames won going away anyway.

I usually try to be optimistic but there were a lot of things about last nights game that make me wonder exactly what we are dealing with.
How does an effort like that happen when you are in the middle of a playoff race like this?
Have they really quit?
Was there a big party after the poker tournament last night?
Just weird.
Then I think, I wonder if Avalanche observers are jumping off bridges.

Thanks. I saw them rack up the shots in the third too.

I think the expected goals model overestimates the real life potential of what they did though

The fact that the Flames have yet to win a game after trailing into the third period is not a good sign. It is a bad omen. I am an eternal optimist but it is time for the leaders on this team to put a few games on their back.

I see system discipline and not effort as the issue.

I didn't realize Luke Philp got into an NHL lineup. Good for him, but also tells you everything about the state of the Blackhawks right now. Getting your ass kicked by such a group is one of those moments where it's really hard to find any positives as a fan.

Default Tre have some dignity

If I had a track record like Treliving I think I would do the honorable thing and resign.

If Markstrom was Calgary's best player last night, they should all just shoot themselves.

10 fantastic saves?

Chicago only had 14 high danger chances last night, which is about an average number.

It's Ok for goalies to be expected to make some good saves.

Last night was the first time I thought the actual effort was poor (as well as execution). Guy were halfheartedly stabbing at pucks and giving up when they seemed out of reach. D men were not making the second effort to keep pucks in the zone like usual. They were content to let it out and try and regroup, which led to them being vulnerable to the hungrier Hawk forwards.

The third period was more even but I chalk that down to score effects.

Horrible. There seemed to be so many chances where guys could have jumped on loose pucks and knock them into the net. No effort.

They were second to a lot of pucks.

Yet still probably the Flames best GM since Cliff Fletcher left in 1991.

Well, he was. Who played better in your mind?

Yes, he is expected to make a bunch of good saves. And he did. You just can't accept that the loss was not on him in any way, shape or form. It was on defenders who chose not to defend and scorers who couldn't get near the net. The Hawks didn't even play that well, to my mind, or they'd have been up even more.

Sad but true. The Flames’ track record on GMs is pathetic.

Boston has 6 regulation losses, one of those is to Arizona and the other is to Ottawa (who also beat them in a shootout).

Carolina has lost to Arizona, Anaheim, and Columbus.

Toronto has lost to Arizona (twice), San Jose, and Anaheim.

Dallas has lost to San Jose twice.

Calgary has lost to Chicago twice, and Columbus once.

That’s not to say Calgary is a fun team to watch (they aren’t) or a Stanley Cup contender (would need a miracle) but just that it’s low hanging fruit that doesn’t have any real significance when judging the quality of a team of what is/isn’t wrong with it and how major those problems might be.

With the defence, it’s hard. We lost Tanev, but we’ve also been without Kylington. The two formed our best pairing last year, so that’s a very hard blow and would be to any team, not fair to blame the rest of the guys for not making it work. We might have the worst bottom pairing in the league with Tanev and Kylington out. We also can’t score to save our lives after losing our top two scoring wingers, so I don’t know, maybe that’s a pretty clear and obvious problem and one that doesn’t have anything to do with the defence.

The Avs lost to the Ducks last night and the Yotes and Blackhawks earlier this year as well. Bottom feeders have always beaten teams in playoff contention. It sucks but it is what it is

Every team has those nights.

But man given timing and opponent it’s hard to accept.

I never thought we would see this from a Sutter coached group.

Starting to think something really is rotten in Denmark.

And I can’t stand Wills either.

Giving up 14 HD chances is high for the Flames...one of the worst of the season. Their average is 8.
