The live vs televised goes for a lot of sports. Baseball for example is so beyond boring that I cannot help but change the channel. The American ballpark experience however, is something any sports fan should do at least once. Same for NFL.

Hockey did it first. See: 2001-2002 Detroit Red Wings.
Already had: Chelios, Fedorov, Larionov, Lidstrom, Shanahan, Yzerman
Added: Hull, Robitaille, Hasek, Datsyuk
Convinced Bowman to coach "Just one more year."
Result: President's Trophy, Stanley Cup.

They addressed it with the salary cap though. The NBA cap is the most complicated one in sports. So many exceptions and loopholes.

In this American's house, it is pretty much:
1. College Football/NHL/College Basketball
2. National Soccer/NFL
3. NBA/Soccer

Agree on the baseball. Live baseball is amazing.
NFL, on the other hand, is not that good live. The vast majority of the viewing angles in the stadium don't give you a good perspective on what's happening, and on top of it, there's more stoppage time for commercials than what I consider reasonable. Sure the atmospheres can be great and the stadiums a spectacle, but overall, the game is made for television.

LOL you think people in Edmonton love the NBA? Even lots of Americans don't care for it as I see it looked down upon by fans in NFL forums.

I went to a suns game in phoenix a few years ago and it was brutal, just udderly boring and uneventgul. Except for the cheerleaders of course!

Agreed, and driving an oval like that is an absolute blast. I bashed it until I tried it.
Can't stand watching it on TV though.

Hockey is by far my favorite sport then basketball and baseball come after. I'll watch a lot more regular season basketball than baseball but baseball playoffs are unreal. I can enjoy a good mlb playoff series as much as an nhl one.
