The Lightning are a bunch of cheaters, but at least they play entertaining hockey.
Because all those high talent, score on the rush teams are doing so well? As Lou Lamorello says, talented players score some goals but TEAMS win. He also said the talented guys play for the name on the back but the only thing that matters is the crest on the front.

Timing is everything, and had the Flames made it known they were interested in him, it could have been different. But he never heard anything from the hockey team because they rushed to hire Bill Peters. Sometimes patience is a good thing, but when it comes to coaches Brad Treliving has always managed to prove himself to be an incompetent. Imagine where this team could have been with Trotz behind the bench.

Hiring him would have probably required:

1. CGY to pay as much or more than NYI (and any other team interested)
2. Trotz to prefer CGY to NYI (and any other team interested), all things considered (from team to GM to city to etc.)

Not impossible, but no guarantee. I googled '2018 nhl coaching hires' and this was the first result:

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/...rs-barry-trotz

Strikeout on Trotz and who else would we be looking at? Brind'Amour highly unlikely. Berube was an AC in STL...unlikely they would have granted him permission considering what happened a few months later.

Was Sutter available back then? Or go with another rookie NHL coach like David Quinn or Jim Montgomery? Hitchcock?

Oh boy, that was a huge save by Vasilevski on Pageau and then Palmieri.

Well, I've watched a period and a half of this and I'm already bored. Tampa is occasionally trying, and they're good enough that there's some nice puck movement on occasion but it's mostly a bunch of nothing happening.

The Islanders are the hockey equivalent of anti-tennis. They're anti-hockey. They need to not be a thing. This sucks.

Barzal! Nice game so far from NYI, they've generated some grade A chances without allowing much yet.

For the good of hockey, no neutral observer should be cheering for the Isles or Habs. Unless you want more teams to emulate the clog neutral zone, block passing lanes etc and make every series a borefest

A matter of opinion, obviously. I personally enjoyed the first period - plenty of shots, lots of chances and good goaltending.

It’s easier to play defense than it is to orchestrate a roster $18M over the cap.

Tampa carrying play, dominating possession, but having a tough time putting anything dangerous together, and ... losing 2 0 at this point. Funny game, hockey.

Never understood why so many people were predicting this series to be lopsided. NYI are a formidable opponent.
