Lease it for 4 years then buyout the residual at $99,999?
Iíd guess less than 3% chance this actually happens.

It would likely be 10% above 100K anyway, wouldn't it?

Mk8 Golf is being revealed tomorrow. I've read noon EST and 2:30 EST, so not sure which. Can't wait to see it and I hope they show the GTI at the same time.

Apparently this is it.

Understated like most Golfs, but feels a bit generic on first impression...like the current Jetta.

Yeah, that's a bit of a yawn. I'm kind of surprised they went so understated on the grill and lights. Hopefully the GTI trim cools it up a bit.

Generic & bland? Base model Golf always is.

For the love of all that is holy, please-please-please VAG, retain the manual in the R.

It looks like it also has the same neanderthal-forehead thing going on that VWs have these days, which I'm not a huge fan of.

That M3/M4 on the other hand...yikes all around. Looks like a bad Chinese knock-off of what a BMW should look like.

It's really weird to me that the grilles are actually bigger than the 4 Series concept

I didn't mind the Lexus grille went it first came out, and it has only grown on me more, especially on the RC/LC.

But this will never grow on me.

They're getting a lot of publicity right now for this, but for all the wrong reasons. Can this really be good for sales?

The Lexus grille looks nice in some applications and garish in others. The best looking Lexus doesn't have the spindle so is it really necessary? One thing Lexus has done is create an instantly recognizable look, remove the badge and you still know right away.

I think the 1930s was the ultimate decade for beautiful cars, and they usually had big grills, so I'm not against them in concept. But car companies are slapping them on without considering if they fit in the overall design language. The BMW grills aren't shaped like that for functional reasons and there's no flow with the rest of the car.

They used to look so much better, and even though they don't do big fenders anymore I'm sure if they made the grill skinnier and fit it better into the lines of the car it wouldn't be so ugly.

It's all because of China. The design of everything is more and more governed by the tastes of that country, because companies know that's where the money is. And unfortunately, the Chinese aren't known for their subtle refined tastes... they tend to want things busy and ostentatious.

It used to be that everything was designed to the tastes of the N.America and Europe, and everyone else just had to deal, including China. Now it's all about what China wants, and the rest of us have to deal.

If only the world was run by the Swiss, Japanese, or Italians!

Oh no, I didn't notice the exhaust at first. I hate that style, too. Between the snout/forehead and the exhaust I'm not a fan so far. Was thinking the GTI would be great for a commuter for my wife, but I'm not loving it. We'll see more detail in a few hours, I guess.
