Because the Flames took only forwards at the 2018 draft, Valimaki and Schneider going pro, and with Fox traded:


All Flames defencemen and goalie prospects are playing pro hockey in North America.

No defencemen or goalies playing in the CHL.

No defencemen or goalies playing in the NCAA or USHL.

No defencemen or goalies playing in Europe.

Unless they acquire some prospects in trade or sign someone out of development camp, it is strange to see.

Pronman gives the Flames a "C" for their picks. Isn't really a big fan of any of them (especially Pospisil), but says they gambled on skill with Roman, Pettersen, and Zavgorodniy.

2016: A- (Tkachuk, Parsons, Dube, Fox, Lindstrom, Mattson, Tuulola, Phillips, Falkovsky)
2015: B (Andersson, Kylington, Karnaukhov, Mangiapane, Bruce)
2014: A- (Bennett, McDonald, Smith, Hickey, Ollas Mattsson, Carroll)

So he really liked our 2014 draft, but it looks like one of our worst in recent years.

I find Pronman is afraid to go lower than C. In the review I saw on The Athletic today he gave out one or two D and zero F scores. He probably wants to keep the hype alive for all the teams but I wish he was a little more practical with his assessments.
