Devils Plan for the Future
While most GM's sitting 2nd Overall would add before the playoffs, the Devils decided to clear salary and move out some big names.
Stamkos, Kucherov and Letang all packed their bags.
In return the Devils received:
Casey Mittlestadt (8 OV 2017)
Victor Soderstrom (11 OV 2019)
Chandler Stephensen
2020 1st (SAN)
2020 1st (ANA)
2021 1st (SAN)
2020 2nd (NYI)
2020 2nd (PIT)
We also picked up Charlie Coyle for Tyler Madden and a 2020 3rd (NJ)
We figured instead of selling these guys for pennies on the dollar in the summer when Rantanen, Connor, Werenski etc all need raises we would sell now and roll the dice in the playoffs where anything usually can and will happen.
If anything it made the Pacific stronger with SJ and Calgary adding and maybe Philly can finally get past the Devils now.
