I don’t really like jeeps, but this thing is not bad. I can see them being popular.

Much better looking than the Honda truck I’m seeing around.

I've owned at least 4 Jeeps - 2 wranglers and 2 cherokees. I love the wranglers, but there is no way that it would be my only vehicle. They are hard on gas, they are like driving a sheet of plywood into the wind, they aren't the most stable vehicles and they lack room inside for carrying stuff. But, they are a blast to drive off road and in the country. Also, they are great in the warm weather when you can take the roof and doors off.

I had to look that up, it's 5 footer, which is common these days, but BS. I need a 6 foot box to put bikes in without it hanging over the tailgate. It's 49" wide, which is good for a sheet of plywood.

Yeah, I agree this would be way better as a second vehicle, but can also see the appeal is a primary vehicle for a guy that can't afford/doesn't want two vehicles:
  • Four-wheel drive, so it's good in the winter
  • Convertible top makes it fun in the summer
Really is a good year-rounder, but I think you'd have to be somewhat young to be willing to put up with the drawbacks that come from owning such a wacky/uncomfortable vehicle.

5 foot truck boxes are the worst. I mean you can manage a lot of things with crafty stowing and overhanging secured stuff. But if I own a truck, I want to be able to say "I have a truck so I can pick that up", not "I own a truck, I'll see if it might fit or else I'll pay for delivery or phone a friend with a bigger truck".

Too bad there's no 2 door regular cab or extended cab option that would allow you to have a longer bed without the crazy long footprint. But I guess regular cabs don't really sell anymore, so I'm not surprised.

That box is mostly for show anyways...this is as they say a "lifestyle" truck.

4.5 foot are abominations.


My S-10 is an extended cab with a 6 foot box. It's the perfect size truck for me. I don't need to move people, I need to move stuff. Having the extended cab still means I can put some things securely in the cab, and a person if I have to, not that I'd want to put anyone through that, having spent my childhood in those jumper seats...


What I'm saying is, I don't know why you'd sacrifice stuff storage for people storage.

If it wasn't a Jeep it might be more interesting, but if I wanted a vehicle I'd have to do suspension work too every year I'd buy another Ram

I am seeing a lot of them in Maui, I would certainly rent this as a great beach/off road vehicle, or maybe buy a used one when they start depreciating. I would not buy it as an every day vehicle in Calgary, I agree that the Tacoma would be a better buy.

does the horn play "la-kookaracha"?

it does not work for me on any level - but i am a ford guy, so it is hard for me to deviate off of that.

as mentioned above, the box does not look overly functional for hauling almost anything

That's only 2000 more than a Ford Explorer ffs

You buy this for image and thats about it

A pickup truck with Jeep reliability. I think a lot of people will be disappointed with the reality of owning one of these.

7500 is fine for the segment.

Honda Ridgeline: 5000 lbs
Nissan Frontier: 6100 lbs
Tacoma: 6400 lbs
Ranger: 7700 lbs
Colorado: There's a range based on engine choice: 3500, 7000 or 7700 lbs

And to compare it to the Ford Explorer is impressive in the Jeep's favour, whereas your wording diminishes the difference. The Jeep can tow 40% more than the Explorer. That's a big difference.

Pretty crap for anyone that wants a truck to use as a truck, no matter what way word it. Add in the the fact that it'll come with Jeep reliability and likely a gross price tag, that's a huge pass from me.

It'll suffer from the same issue as the rest of that segment. Price. By the time you get one with any half decent features, you're well into the pricing of a decent half ton.

Why would you buy the vehicle that can do less for the same money. Like I said, it'll sell for the image that's about it
