I got a feeling that when the season is over we won't be talking about Smith the way we are now. I think it's a great story but the first month or two of the season are pointless when discussing MVP as it's an award won over the last month of the season when teams are vying for playoff positions.

so true, Sam Darnold was looking like an MVP candidate early on his first year with the Panthers, played well enough to get his 5th year option picked up. big mistake there

Geno is a nice storey but the Seahawks are still 2-3 and have inflated stats against a terrible Lions defence a weak Falcons defence, and a Saints team who played in London the previous week. The legend is being hyped up a bit by how poorly Wilson is doing as well.
Jalen Hurts is more of a challenger to Allen in the MVP race.

Geno is playing significantly better than Darnold did, and the Panthers are extremely poorly run. As for crappy defenses, Brady just played the crappy Falcons defense and needed the worst call in recent history to beat them, putting up middling numbers. It is early, and the better comparable is when Alex Smith was MVP after 5-6 weeks (the year before Mahomes took over). But even if Geno's ceiling now is, well, Alex Smith, a team like the Colts would kill for an Alex Smith instead of the washed up has beens they've trotted out post-Luck. His start might be a mirage, or maybe he's having a Rich Gannon late career renaissance. Time will tell.

They are 1-4 with a -5 point differential, I know people love piling on the Raiders but that is pretty unfortunate...1-4 Steelers are -51
I bet they go on a run coming out of the bye though

They're slightly more talented at the skill positions but the offensive line is still below-average. They averaged 2.4 sacks allowed in 2021 and are averaging 2.4 sacks allowed again this year (19th in the league).
They're just not a great team by any statistical measure (23rd in overall DVOA, 19th in offensive DVOA, 22nd in defensive DVOA).

It wasn't a good look, but being charged for assault after a shove?
Adams is one of the few elite receivers who never gave off the diva vibe.

I see the Dolphins might have to start Skylar Thompson again on Sunday. In a way it's ironic that Bridgewater is likely being held out by more stringent concussion protocols that are in place largely because the Dolphins egregiously did not follow the previous less stringent ones.

Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be tbh. Did he give him a little push, yeah, but the guy also ran right into him.

Misdemeanor assault pleaded to something even lower with a fine or a couple days of community service, some money to the guy and an NFL fine sound about right. He seems like a good enough guy, but can't be doing that and some minor penalty and moving on seems like it should be reasonable to all parties.

I'm a big Raiders fan but my thoughts and prayers are with the camera man and his family. I hope he recovers fully from the injuries inflicted on him by Adams.

When this does eventually come to a head it's gonna be quite the "Get your popcorn ready" moment.
Quote:
DAN SNYDER DOES this thing when he feels cornered, say those who know him well. He paces in a hotel suite, or on his superyacht, or at River View, his $48 million Virginia estate. Cradling a drink in one hand, he tells members of his inner circle about the dirt he has accumulated on fellow owners, coaches, executives, even his own employees -- all the stuff he's learned from other sources, including private investigative firms. He never says exactly what he knows, only that in his 23 years as owner of the Washington Commanders, he knows a lot. And that in the zero-sum world of billionaires, this is how you survive. Snyder recently told a close associate that he has gathered enough secrets to "blow up" several NFL owners, the league office and even commissioner Roger Goodell.
"They can't f--- with me," he has said privately.
Senior team executives and confidants have heard him say it since he was considered merely one of the worst owners in sports. Now that he's facing investigations on multiple fronts and running out of high-powered allies, he alludes more than ever to the dirty work. Snyder, now 57 years old, has told associates he will not lose his beloved franchise without a fight that would end with multiple casualties.
"The NFL is a mafia," he recently told an associate. "All the owners hate each other."
"That's not true," one veteran owner says. "All the owners hate Dan."
|
Quote:
According to more than 30 owners, league and team executives, lawyers and current and former Commanders employees interviewed by ESPN, the fear of reprisal that Snyder has instilled in his franchise, poisoning it on the field and off, has expanded to some of his fellow owners. Multiple owners and league and team sources say they've been told that Snyder instructed his law firms to hire private investigators to look into other owners -- and Goodell.
League sources say the NFL is aware that Snyder has claimed to be tracking owners. But none of the owners or sources would reveal how they learned of Snyder's alleged effort to use private investigators. It's also unclear how many owners are said to have been targeted, though sources say they believe it's at least six. One owner was told by Snyder directly that he "has dirt on Jerry Jones," a team source told ESPN, though the nature of the information was unclear. Another source confirmed that Snyder has told a confidant that he has "a file" on Jones, the Dallas Cowboys owner who has served as Snyder's friend, mentor and longtime firewall of support.

None of this is really surprising given how the league has tiptoed around this situation as it's clear that the league has a lot to lose if Snyder goes nuclear. It seems like eventually this will all have to come to a head as he has to go.

Someone is going to have to take these punters out for a nice dinner after this game. I don't know if that should be the coach or the QB or what.

4th and 16? In this game? Should have punted. 3 timeouts plus 2 minute warning.

The punters probably have limits in their contracts as to how many times they can be asked to punt in a game and both had maxed out.
