You can't even make this stuff. The CBC has come out swinging to outright blast Johnston and the Liberals on this debacle with a pretty damning revelation.
Quote:
David Johnston, Canada's special rapporteur on foreign interference, has hired a firm known for its crisis communications to support him — and taxpayers are footing the bill, CBC News has learned.
Valérie Gervais, a spokesperson for Johnston, confirmed that the former governor general, appointed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to investigate foreign interference in Canadian politics, first retained Navigator at the start of his mandate as special rapporteur to provide "communications advice and support."
Navigator calls itself a "high-stakes strategic advisory and communication's firm" that offers a range of services. Its slogan is, "When you can't afford to lose."
Hockey Canada hired the firm to help it through the fallout from its handling of sexual abuse allegations and use of players' registration fees to quietly pay out settlements. A Hockey Canada executive confirmed the organization paid Navigator more than $1.6 million to guide it through its public relations nightmare.
Quote:
Along with Navigator, Johnston also hired the Ottawa-based communications company RKESTRA to provide "media relations support" related to the release of his first report.
RKESTRA's website currently lists Gervais as the founder and CEO of the company.
It's so blatant! Next we will hear Trudeau defend this and say that Navigator and RKESTRA are the only companies that can do the work required. It worked for WE, it will work again now and they know they can get away because of diehard libs will be right there to defend them.
Every single Canadian news outlets have either being critical or extremely critical of the Johnston appointment and handling of the situation, every single opposition party has voted against the liberals requesting Johnston to step down, that vast majority of Canadians do not trust him (the vote for coincidentally close to the Liberal share of the vote). When has that ever happened? Trudeau is doing the impossible and uniting all non-Liberals against them.
Even Fuzz conceded it may be time for him to go and is hurting the party.
And yet diehard apologists still cling on that there is no conflict of interest, and trying to defend Trudeau to the last. Like, why?

Do you really want to know why or are you just baiting so you can be angry at "apologists"?

the Taxpayers are on the hook for the two crisis communication firms that's hip deep in government lobbying and acting as a third party communications firm.
I can understand why the Libs are fighting this so hard. Its a bad look, and Trudeau is fighting like he's got nothing to hide.
But for Johnston to fight against the house vote and the polls of the people demanding he step down and a public inquiry happen, frankly seems out of character.

The use of the likes of Navigator and RKESTRA doesn’t come as a surprise. Lobbyists and special interest groups run things in Ottawa and have for a long time, regardless of who is in power. That’s just the way things work. Elected and appointed members are just the implement they use to hide behind.
I attended a lobbyist boot camp prior to doing some volunteer lobby work a few years back, lead by a well known national political commentator and public affairs policy consultant. He came right out and plainly said as much.
Edit…Tim Powers is who I referred to above in case anyone is interested in the source of that statement.

The Conservative Party needs to wake up and install a new leader. It’s painfully obvious that Pierre is trash and will never beat the Liberals. What’s done is done - he will not get any better or more favorable.

I know I can never vote for the party with him as leader. Especially in the direction he's taken them.
The sleezy comment in the house of commons just reinforces that.
Also, does it matter? Canadians don’t seem to really think so, unless you’re conservative.
I don’t think its close so far JT has lapped Pierre with 3 ethic violations, multiple rebukes from Ombudsman, firing JWR, the “experience thing’s different “, blackface…
But sure Pierre said some stuff so ick.
