The only way I can see the game getting played is if the two week gap between the conference championships and the SB gets reduced to one week, and everything gets bumped down a week to make time for this game to be played. But that's not what matters right now. Damar's health is all we should be concerned with right now.

There is no guarantee whatsoever they play, if this were week 4 that'd be different. They don't have a lot of slack for moving this game in week 17.

I still can't believe the NFL gave them 5 minutes to warm up and go play truly disgusting.

Good on the coaches to get the game suspended.

Some Vince McMahon level garbage.

The game means far too much to just call it a tie or left as is (unless there are already rules about that).

While the important thing is the health of Hamlin obviously.

There are people on twitter saying that the worst has happened. However it's not clear whether they actually know or are just trying to go viral.

Assuming he doesn't make it, Buffalo even playing Sunday might be difficult emotionally, so that game might have to be delayed, and then you have to find more time to squeeze this game in. Until this situation clarifies it's an unprecedented situation. That it "means far too much" is irrelevant if he passes away.

I looked at Hamlin's fundraiser 5 minutes ago - just under $400K. Looked at it 2 minutes later, it was $477K. Looked again now, it's $550K. Wowza. Good going, people.

It's awful to think that an outcome will be required for this game. Call it a final at the score it was when postponed. Move on. Both teams with identical records. No one is going to want to finish this game.

Nah, it really doesn't. Both teams are good for the playoffs. It's merely about bragging rights and playoff positioning. If you really think that's more important than a 24 year old who may have dropped dead on the field tonight, then you clearly don't value human life.

The NFL has always been gladiatorial, but this takes it too far. Shame on you. I don't care about your last second statement. It's meaningless in light of the first one.

People can talk about 2 things at once. I never once said it means more than Hamlins life.

Yup, keep doubling down on this. I'm sure you'll look really good in the long run.

How does playing a game tomorrow or Wed mean you don’t value human life ? How many athletes have played a game after a parent or loved one passed away

If the team doesn’t feel up to it that’s a different story , but I would be willing to bet they will want to get back to “normalcy” sooner then later even as a distraction.

The most sense is play Wed , and move the Cincy and Bills games next week to Monday or Tues

^Except that doesn't quite add up because he had a pulse, so his heart was still beating regularly and the cycle wasn't exactly disrupted. Why he isn't breathing on his own is the real concern. Diaphragmatic contraction is automatic. So either the spinal cord is damaged at the medulla, or the phrenic nerve is damaged. I don't know what else it could be.

I think it's a bit quick to jump on this.
There will be protocol to follow, and I'm sure this was it. I don't think there was every a point in time that this game was continuing today, but you could be right.

that was a scary incident to see live.

I think the only other two that I've seen were the Jiri Fischer heart attack and the bench and the one with Ericsson from Denmark on the field...

the coaches were right to take their teams to the locker room... this wasn't a 5 min break situation.

^^ the announcers said the NFL was restarting the game in 5 minutes, and then the Cincy coach walked across the field to talk to McDermott and they looked they they agreed to go to the locker room instead of the 5 minutes that was stated by the announcers.

Look, if he pulls through fine they'll be able to play in a day or two. But if he dies? They will have watched him died in person playing the sport they are supposed to go play right away. Thinking they can just emotionally flip the switch and play ASAP is crazy. Forcing them to do so because "it's really important" would be so callous and insensitive.
