Default good Steak place downtown

So my friends from Germany are in calgary on sunday/monday this weekend, and I said they should have some steak while they are here. they said that would be good, but now im not sure where to take them. we are going to do the calgary tower and walk around downtown on sunday evening, and Im wondering where to take them.
somewhere not too expensive (ie not $50 steaks) though, a students budget.
I was looking at the Trib and the Saltlik as they are both on stephen ave and sound good. anyone been to these places? reccomend something better/cheaper?
this is the trib steak prices
Rib Eye 14oz 29
New York 10oz 31
Tenderloin 6oz 35
Rib Chop 18oz 32
Flat Iron 8oz 22

not bad, but would the keg be a better bet?
thanks again,
calgaryrocks

I wasn't impressed by Ceasar's last time I went. Slow, rude service and the steak really wasn't all that great (rib'eye). Plus the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm in some silly italian mobster movie. But I have friends who swear by it so I guess your mileage may vary.

Hy's Steakhouse was awesome. Probably the best in the city, if not then it's up there. Never saw the bill (lucky me), but I can imagine it was in the 25-40$ range.

The Keg - surprisingly a great place (one down on 4th especially - GREAT service). Cheap-ish, high quality - never been disappointed. Only knock being that it's a chain and I generally am not fond of chains.

The best steak I had was probably at Vintage Steakhouse on 11th....although this was a few years ago, so Im not sure if it's still any good.

For the price, its hard to beat the Keg. Sure, it's a chain, but I still think its better than most steaks Ive had anywhere in the US. It really depends which one you go to however....Ive always had the best experience at the Stadium location. The one on 11th wasn't bad either.

Is Hy's still around? I thought all the hoopla a while ago was because they shut down.

Just go to Caesers. The Italian Mobster atmosphere adds to the flavor.

I sure do miss Hy's though.

Haven't tried the Saltlik in Calgary but the one in Banff was great.

I'll just echo what everyone else is saying right now.

Hy's was the best. RIP
Ceasars is pretty damn close to Hy's so it's my second choice.
The Keg you can't really go wrong with, it's consistently good, and a decent price
Saltlik, makes a pretty good steak too, they don't have the kind of selection that the true steakhouses have but they make a good New York and their chipotle sauce is really good.

Damn, now I have to find some frineds who would be game for a steak dinner tonight.

Is there a good place to get a Beef Wellington in Calgary? I had a really amazing at a pub the last time I went to Banff, but don't see it on many menus out there (same here in NY, never ever see it) even though its so damn tasty.

For dinner, my guest tries the namesake cut, a filet of beef Wellington baked in puff pastry ($33), complete with traditional foie gras pâté and mushrooms Duxelle. It comes served with a stuffed potato. The dish looks amazing and tastes even better.

Ugh...The Keg is garbage and a total rip-off at any price. I didn't think much of the Saltlik in Banff, but I've never been to the one downtown. Caesar's is the best in the city but it depends on what your budget is. Ric's isn't too bad. Chicago Chophouse is horrible and overpriced.

I prefer the downtown location. Last time I went to the one in Willow Park my steak was undercooked and cold when it got to my table.

Really? I've been eating there almost 30 years, same chef, always perfect, and I've evolved from "well done" to "rare" over the decades.

Yeah, I was there for my dad's birthday a few years ago and we all ordered medium steaks (I've since evolved to a medium-rare) and they came very rare and, like I said, lukewarm. I'm sure it was more of one time mistake and probably more on the waiter's behalf (he seemed a little slow).
