David Ayer is remaking the Dirty Dozen to "have modern characters with incredible diversity and real voices." I don't think that he gets that this was a group of rapists and murderers, who it was supposed to be difficult to cheer for. The original intention was that you were to grudgingly want some of these people to survive.
I don't think that the original can be improved upon.
I didn’t think Lee Marvin’s Point Blank could be improved upon but Mel Gibson’s Payback proved me wrong. Then Jason Statham’s Parker proved me right. Crud I think Lee Marvin’s was a remake of something else anyway?
Look point is Lee Marvin should be in it. I don’t care if he’s dead, use a Carrie fisher hologram dammit.
I had to buy both versions of Payback to check out the difference. Such a weird story of how that got made, but I'm glad that they shot both of them, and didn't just have left over footage to piece together the alternative version.

Didn't even realize there was a directors cut. Read up on the differences, and the directors does not sound nearly as good.
Also; watched The Gentlemen the other night. I love Snatch, and is by far more memorable, but IMO The Gentlemen was a better movie. I plan on watching it again but would find it difficult to find a flaw in it.
Followed that up with Lock, Stock the following night. How I've waited this long to watch it is beyond me.
I have mixed feelings on the Hobbit. All of Gandalf's side-stories were great, and they weren't part of the original book, but they are part of known lore, so I have a hard time saying it should be shorter when a lot of what made it good was added content. The romance is weak, but I understand why they felt they needed a prominent female character (having love as the only thing that can motivate a female character to take part in a story is such a cliche though, I think if you give her non-romantic motivations she's immediately a better character).
Prior to Battle of Five Armies coming out, I really thought that they could salvage the trilogy and have it be respectable. But the actual battle in that movie is an absolute mess, both visually and in pacing. I blame, in part, a willingness to fully embrace CGI that wasn't there in LotR, where they were still trying to do as much as possible with practical effects.
There are little elements in the Hobbit I love, including Martin Freeman's acting which I think is spot-on. And the physical fighting style of the dwarves is really well done, it gives them an identity different from anything else in Middle Earth.
Watched a terrific documentary last night called "Inmate #1: The Rise of Danny Trejo", which covers his journey from criminal life and incarceration during his 20s, to his battle with addiction, his unconventional rise as a Hollywood actor, and his current charity work. This dude has lived quite a life.

Love Laurence of Arabia. They worked out what the budget would be to try and make that movie in todays market, and it was so high that it would never be greenlit in the first place. One of those lightning in a bottle movies, where everything had to be perfect, director, casting, timing, access ect.

The House That Jack Built sucked out loud. When will I learn Lars Von Trier puts out the cinematic equivalent of sniffing his own farts for three hours mixed with pointlessly unnecessary ugly violence? “Am I SHOCKING you!?!?” I can hear him asking. About on par with Eli Roth as far as filmmakers go except somehow less interesting.
Location: A simple man leading a complicated life....

You sometimes think you've seen all the best flicks and yet one escapes your interest. Tonight I watched a movie that my friends rave about. It's Mat Damon/ Robin Williams classic - "Good Will Hunting"
It was one of those movies that had me captivated from start to finish. To see the growth in Will and for that matter Sean
Then comes my favourite scene that had me laughing.

^ Wow, I'm shocked that you haven't seen that one yet. It's truly a great film. Great script, but even better performances. Easily my favorite Robin Williams performance ever. He was so good when he dialed down the energy and gave authentic emotion. Without him that film would fall flat.
