Nice story by Antti Raanta regarding his mask design on the Players Tribune:

Quote:
So when I came to New York to play for the Rangers last season, I wanted to do something special to support the people who protect and serve the city. I try to create something unique to me every time I design a new mask. It’s almost like a small Christmas every time you unwrap a new mask, you know?
I remember when I was a little kid I’d watch this 30 minute NHL highlights show with my dad every Saturday morning. One of the things I always noticed was the designs on the goalie masks. Mike Richter had the red, white and blue Statue of Liberty design, and I’d tell my dad, “Ah, that’s so sick! I wish I could have that mask!” But all we had in Finland was the plain white masks. I didn’t get my first painted mask until I was 18. It was just the team logo on both sides, but I still remember putting it on and looking in the mirror and saying, “Oh yeah, awesome.”

I like that Johnson keeps it simple. Looks good.

He confirmed yesterday post-game that he had the third mask made specifically for retro nights. He used to wear the white (road) mask prior to the retro one arriving.

Karri Ramo's New Leafs/Marlies mask and its pretty sick IMO.
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/m...llen-poe-mask/
Quote:
The mask is themed around American poet Edgar Allan Poe, something Ramo has done a few times before, and features some ravens and Poe himself.

Theres a video on there if anybody feels like posting it here, not sure how to do it from twitter.

Agreed. I am not a fan, and it is a shame because Rämo's Raven masks are some of the best ever.

I actually don`t mind that Gibson mask, minus the dot-to-dot stuff. Sometimes less is more. (Are those flames coming off the 36 at the bottom?)
Johnson`s retro setup is awesome. Thank you for not flipping the C on the right side!

Those two Ramo masks were so phenomenal. They alone made me want him to succeed here so badly, definitely two of the top-50 goal masks of all time.
Now that would be a fun blog post to write.
