Les McCann passed, he was a great in his own right but his work was sampled a million times by Cali rappers and hip hop artists

Like many here, I’m sure, I absolutely loved Starsky and Hutch as a kid.

RIP Hutch

oh ya huge Starsky and Hutch fan, OTOH I was in the UK this spring and watching top of the pop reruns in my hotel room - his 'soft pop' star phase was less memorable

I had the Hot Wheels Gran Torino from the show when I was little. I was too young to understand what was going on so I don’t remember if it was good or not, but that car was cool.

'Caddyshack' & 'Tron' Star Cindy Morgan Dead at 69

https://www.tmz.com/2024/01/06/caddy...gan-dead-dies/

Quote:
3:49 PM PST -- The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office tells TMZ ... Cindy's roommate called cops to their Lake Worth Beach home on Dec. 30, 2023 -- saying she returned home from a holiday trip, knocked on Cindy's door in their residence ... but got no response.
The roommate told officers she smelled a strong odor emanating from inside and called 911, noting the last she'd seen CM alive was on Dec. 19. Cops went in and found Cindy dead in her room ... with no foul play suspected. An investigation is underway.
3:22 PM PST -- A county rep confirms to TMZ that Cindy died of "natural causes."

Couple of heroes from my youth passed, Franz Beckenbauer and JPR Williams

Rugby when it was played on a soggy bog and they still danced across it like sunbeams

Der Kieser, a towering figure in an era of incomparably great teams and players, his final against Cruff and Holand is still my favourite final of all time

Wow...John Williams was hard as hell in his youth before he took up Orchestra.

And we're all going to miss Der Kaiser.

I've never been much of a football fan but I watched a fair amount of "Soccer Made in Germany" in the late 70's; primarily because of Beckenbauer.

Adan Canto died of cancer in his appendix. He was only 42. He had a major role in Designated Survivor, as well as Blood and Oil, The Following, and Mixology. He also had a bit part in Days of Future Past.

Surprised it's not posted here but it's making the rounds in the news that Canadian Olympian Shawn Barber died, after some type of medical complications. I remember vividly that it was controversial he tested positive for cocaine years ago. I wonder what happened? 29...very young.

Every time a young, seemingly healthy person dies my first thought is always "fentanyl related"

Nerene Virgin. I can hear some people saying "I have no idea who that is" but if you're old like me and remember "Todays Special", you know exactly who she was. RIP

I had totally forgotten about Today's Special, but as soon as I looked at the photo memories of it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I remember finding out Jeff Hyslop (the manakin) played the Phantom in the Canadian run of The Phantom of The Opera and was mind blown.

That was like grade three and I was still full of wonder and joy, mind.

They had a lot of influence on what later became alternative, post-punk, and indie rock. Artists like Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Belle and Sebastian, Amy Winehouse, Kathleen Hanna, Patti Smith, and others have listed them as an influence. When I listen to their music, I can't help but think Kathleen Hanna had them on a regular rotation back in the day.
