Not to bad this morning, though my toes are perpetually cold, no matter what the temp is outside... Oh well! Took my headset apart and serviced it yesterday. Apparently 19 years is to long to leave it. The grease that was left had turned to a sticky paste. No wonder it wasn't turning! Much better this morning.

I'm a little concerned looking at the packed down snow on the road, it is getting quite a bit of shine to it. Hopefully it doesn't thaw and freeze to much or it could get quite slick!

I'd rather ice than when it warms up and turns into a couple inches of brown slush. Nothing but maybe a fat bike can handle that stuff without sliding all over.

Ya, brown slush sucks. Not sure their is enough snow right now to make that a big issue right now though. At some point I think I'm going to be testing the fail point of these studs if the ice comes though!

Oh, I pumped my tires to the max(70psi) in my warm basement, and the ride was a lot easier today!

Some awesome person added a full workstand in our parking area at work in the last few weeks, complete with a pump, tools. Excellent!

Just be careful when the ice does get bad. More pressure = less stud contact. I usually run pretty low on the icy days.

Our bike room has two broken pumps, so you think you'll firm things up for your ride home while you're some place warm, and boom. Flat.

I bet the guy who put them in there laughs to himself about it every night before bed.

A little frosty. The milk I brought today was mostly a popsicle by the time I got to work.

I saw one of these at Cycle Path yesterday.

Loved the look of it. Now I just need to save my pennies.

I hope this isn't off topic, but has anyone ever used one of those 'cycling trainer' things where you put your road bike on the stand and can use it as an exercise bike?

Any recommendations on brands, or good/bad experiences using one? In shopping for one, there seems to be quite a variation in price.

I ended up getting an expensive one (Wahoo Snap). I like it because it can automatically adjust the tension to make it feel like I'm going up or down hills. I just need to worry about my gears. It feels surprisingly natural.

There are some other smart trainers out there that people like (Tacx). I went with Wahoo because a lot of reviews said it was heavier/sturdier. But I've heard people love their Tacx too.

It's been years since I used normal, non-smart, trainers so I'll let others offer opinion on those.

I have a Tacx Vortex Smart. I use Zwift and Trainer road with it. I like it, but it can drop off connection to my PC. I would go with wahoo personally. I got my trainer via connections, so it was half price, and a no brainer.

I would never go back to a non smart trainer. Just spinning gets boring for me. I like that the trainer adjust power accordingly. If you use an app like trainer road, you can get your ftp, and set the trainer based on that.

I just got a Tacx Blue Matic a few months ago and have been enjoying it alot. My one recommendation is you buy a trainer tire(~$50 and you only need one) as the trainer will ruin your regular road tires

I bought a 90's Specialized Rockhopper Comp this afternoon to use as a winter commuter. What a fun bike. Any recommendations for winter tires to run?
