I meant I would open one to see if they are ready for drinking...

If not how long should I wait ?

Another 1-2-3 weeks ?? What is the typical waiting period. Instructions says 5 days but obviously that didn't work...

A good rule of thumb is double the fermentation time.

Well I waited...

And still no carbonation. Or not enough anyways...

Any thoughts as to reasons why ??

I am gonna start another batch soon...Gotta get it right some time...I guess...

My wife bought me a cool brewing kit for my birthday. Just started my first batch of beer in decades this week. The kits are all grain, so I'm sure it will be a bit of a learning curve. Biggest problem I am having right now is finding a spot for the fermenter that is warm enough. Apparently cheap-ass me keeps my house too cold.

From someone who is rarely home and incredibly lazy, what's the involvement for making a batch with that?

Looks neat and I like that they're Albertan.

That's a nice looking Kit but you could buy all of those components for under $50. I bought a conical fermenter capable of doing pressure ferments and has a nice little collection ball at the bottom to clear your trub out. Does 5 gallons at a time and is super easy and clean. I'll never go back to the old carboy/bucket fermenting.

Fermentasaurus?

I've got 2 fastferments. Collection ball is awesome. Probably saved me $50 on yeast already.

A bit over a couple of hours to get it to the fermenter so far. Will be something like that to bottle I'm guessing.

I'm sure I could have got going cheaper, but it was a nice gift and it gets me started.

I had this problem until I started brewing it on a seedling grow mat. It helped raised the temperature to the optimal level and its in my colder basement. You can find them on Amazon.

Even better, we already have a seedling growing mat. Thanks for the great idea.

What temperature are you trying to ferment at? Anything between 18-22 deg C is probably fine, assuming you're brewing with ale yeast. The yeast will generate quite a bit of heat themselves. Typically, homebrewers have trouble keeping the temperature low enough. Without temperature control, starting at room temperature, your fermentation might easily push up to 25 deg C. That tends to produce some off flavours, although it's usually not a big deal.

I'd really stay away from trying to heat it up though.

Temperature control is the difference between decent beer and great beer.

When I used to bottle condition my beer, 2 weeks at room temperature was always plenty to see noticeable carbonation. With yours being at a colder temp, the carbonation will be slower but after 3 weeks total you should be seeing some action.

Perhaps your yeast have gone into suspension?? What is the actual temp you have them sitting at? any way you can move them to a warmer location and see?

Yep the Fermentasaurus. I looked at the fast ferments but I wanted the option to pressure ferment and keg straight out of the fermenter once I get my kegging system set up. Oxygen free transfer is a really cool option for force carbonating sweeter meads. The collection ball on both units is top shelf and such a beautiful option.

If you need more bottles check out the Vineyard or Wine Warehouse. You can get 12 1L P.E.T bottles for $15.00 at the Vineyard.

Anyone order their hops/yeast online? Looking for a good Canadian site that doesn't have insane shipping costs.

Yeah I'm thinking about finding an old fridge and turning it into a keezer. Trying to find one with two doors split down the middle so I can use one side for cold fermentations.

Makes sense. Good luck. I love my keezer.
