Maybe I am completely missing something, but this seems like a bit of overreaction over satirical comments about vehicles being dangerous weapons.

Overreaction? I think people are mostly mocking a string of laughably bad posts more than anything. Especially since, you know, treating vehicles like guns ignores the irony of how regulated owning a vehicle is.

Exactly - I'd hate to see what happens when they read The Onion.

We'd laugh far more than reading your attempts at humor?

I think the part you're missing it that it wasn't satirical. Once they were called out on how absurd the comment was, they tried to play that card.

Hard to believe it has only been 3 weeks. This shooting has nearly faded completely from the news.

The NY Times put together an incredible video analysis of all the available video and audio files of the shooting...
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/23/i...-by-pixel.html
They've got Campos being shot a minute after the first shot was fired. That makes a bunch more sense than the 6 minutes before theory.

Mass shootings are so commonplace in the States that we've, unfortunately, become somewhat immune to them.

Incredible work by the Times on this video.
Thanks for posting this.
So if I understand what he is saying, there were 1100 or so rounds fired that night. Nearly half of them found a mark.
Unreal.

Yeah and the really shocking thing was the time between bursts. There were delays of over a minute between some of the bursts of fire...much longer than what would take to switch mags or guns. And also shocking is that he killed himself way before the cops ever arrived. It sounds like it could have been much worse.
That one video where you can here the glass being broken and hitting the ground before the shooting starts is ultimately creepy.

Tough to watch some of that stuff again but that was well done by the NYT.

Nobody outside of a soldier at war should have the capability to fire roughly 100 bullets a minute at anything living, so very stupid and senseless

It's not that the government is at war with its citizens. Rather it is the continued lobbying and contributions of the gun industry to political candidates that prevent politicians from proposing legislation with any teeth that would protect the general public. Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to negligence and incompetency.

Why was Campos allowed to go to Mexico right after the shooting? Wouldn't he be too injured taking a bullet from a high powered rifle? Wouldn't that have shattered his leg?

I was surprised to see that he fired ~200 shots down the hallway of the Mandalay if I am understanding the video correctly. That would likely have played a large part in how the police responded.
