Default Looks like Sears Canada is gonna die

I stop by the one that's on my way home just for nostalgia's sake sometimes.

I have found some good deals there though. Snorkel jackets aren't big down here needless to say, but I did get one that was marked down 80% last year.

For the number of times I'll use
it it's a great deal.

Also jeans and sneakers ridiculously cheap.

Interesting that they made houses years ago. Or should I say "kit houses".

Only place I ever buy belts now is mission belt.com.

The quality of their clothes went down hill while maintaining the premium price so the little I bought from them turned to nothing a few years back. Not surprised, they actually have lasted longer than I thought they would.

Used to buy alot of clothes from them online.I have a sweater I bought about seven years ago that still feels brand new and has never ripped. If the Canadian arm shuts down I have a hard time believing anyone could fill that southcentre location mabye a inside paintball go kart track would work.

I actually miss the one downtown. It was about the only place you could get tools in the area. A good place to go over lunch. Now you've got The Source, or a trip to Northhill.

Concerning to see the mid-range retail segment shutting down. Soon we'll be left with the choice of Wal-Mart or Nordstrom's.

Honestly, Craftsman and Kenmore are the only reason they are still afloat. I thought I heard they sold Craftsman to keep the store afloat, but what they should have done is started selling Craftsman and Kenmore in other stores to keep the company going.

Stanley Black & Decker now owns Craftsman.

I remember multi colored rugby pants and fox brand shirts my mom bought me a sears that made me look like such a dork.

I just hope if and when sears shuts the doors they stop subcontractor services through the indoor air quality division as they are the biggest crooks in the industry.

Yes things are not great at Sears Canada but they run pretty much on their own with only a small portion of US Sears ownership. Saying that Canada is on the same track if they dont figure it out soon. The article is based on Sears US which is probably done soon along with its parent KMart.

I used to do this as well. It was especially nice when I lived downtown and could grab something at lunch at Sears instead of having to drive out to the burbs in the evening. As much as I like Holt, I would prefer Sears and their hardware section given theres a few other choices for clothing in the mall and no hardware stores.

All these old department stores have a certain smell to them. Zellers, Woolco, K-Mart, Woolworths, Sears. They all smell like that.
When Sears closes that smell will basically cease to exist in this world.
Makes me sad.

Haha they all did have their own unique smell and sense of sadness. I remember going to K-Mart in the NE and thinking it had the same smell as zellers. It is kind of strange how they all remind me of each other and they're all out of business pretty much.

People blame online shopping and I'm sure that's a part of it but lets face it company's like Walmart,Costco and The Bay do just fine, hell, I made 34% on my money with one year of Canadian Tire/Marks stock.

Bottom line, retailers with good management can flourish. bad management like the idiots running Sears for the last decade wont.

Walmart went years without an online presence, even now it's not very good. However, no one touches them.

Sears was poorly run, didn't understand the customer base and didn't understand basic consumer transactions. I ordered a washer and dryer off their website. I confirmed the final price, then on my statement I was charged more. I called and they said "well you need to pay tax" I replied "You remit the tax, and you can't charge me more than I authorize". I ended up cancelling the order, and getting a better unit, cheaper from Best Buy (where I've subsequently purchased my dishwasher and will any other appliance).

Only reason I went with Sears originally was to get the Aeroplan points, I don't need them that bad.

I used to love that place for Christmas shopping. Stop in, spend 1/2 an hour looking through the book and filling out the order card, done!

Sears should have transitioned to the online world better than any of their competitors. They had been using that infrastructure for years through the catalog system. But they didn't...now they're done.

The last time I used Sears was when I lived in Osoyoos BC, because it was a small town with next to nothing for retail service. So not wanting to drive 300km to buy a new vacuum in Kelowna I ordered one from Sears out of the US, had it delivered to Oroville Washington when the $CDN was at a decent rate and brought it across. Now that I live in a more urban market...I might park close to a Sears because it's my best chance to find parking and walk through the store to go where I want to go.
