I have no idea how Czarnik is on waivers ahead of Jankowski. It is inexplicable to me.

Sounds like Dube can find a place in town.

B-Mac shot that down hard on twitter. Said the flames and pens were both not interested in signing kovy at all.
I think Janko has the smallest amount more trade potential than Czarnik, which is why Czar was waived over him.

Why the asterik next to Czarnik in Chris Johnston's tweet?

Maybe the asterisk denotes he's on waivers but not going to the AHL?

There was apparently some interest around the league when Czarnik was a FA. Would his $1.25 million pricetag be a barrier?

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames GM Brad Treliving says Czarnik will go to Stockton if he clears waivers. Says he needs to play coming off a high ankle sprain.
Also says Rinaldo will likely be recalled once Czarnik waiver fate is determined tomorrow.

Its quite simple. Jankowski is the more valuable asset. Hes more nhl proven and plays the more important position.

Is the rule still in place where a team claiming him would have to keep him on their NHL roster for the remainder of the season?

Czarnik was brought in to bridge the gap until Mangiapane and Dube were ready. Flames have enough smallish forwards as it is. Is Czarnik $450,000 better than Rieder in a similar role?

They would have to waive him again to send him to the AHL. If the Flames claimed him back off waivers, the Flames could freely send Czarnik to the AHL.

After scoring 1 goal in two games, I don't know if it's a good idea to banish one of the few few depth players that can actually produce.

He's scored 13 goals in 121 career NHL games.

That, and the fact that we scored 30 goals in the previous eight games indicates that focusing on the last two is a little shortsighted.

I think waiving him the day before the trade freeze also is intended to make it more difficult for teams needing to make roster space before they can claim (as others have noted).

I think he'd be an improvement over some of the garbage the Oilers dress in their bottom 6. Is the quoted $1.25 million salary, for the entire season or what's left? I can't see that being a problem.
