I anticipate it would be Huska, with Gelinas returning to the bench as an assistant. Cail MacLean is another possibility.

This entire story is astonishing and I'm curious to see what players from Peters' tenures in Calgary and Carolina have to say about any similar conduct.

Babcock coached Peters 30 years ago in Red Deer. They have remained tight ever since, including coaching together in Spokane in the 90's.

With the bash Babcock feeding frenzy going on this is going to be fascinating.

A decade old allegation from a guy who isn’t very credible probably won’t produce any evidence either way. So wtf are the flames to do. Any other time this goes nowhere. The team can’t sit peters or suspend him without crossing a line they can’t come back from.

I’m guessing the league will have to step in as the third party. The flames will say they asked but may imply they had to. The league will bring in the PA. They’ll find for peters (unless he is in the habit of dropping N bombs). It may not be enough in a social media fuelled world.

Just posting for information — this article about Aliu is from February 2019; interestingly there is a quote from Craig Conroy about Aliu sending him some video of himself playing defence in the KHL. No mention of when that happened though as Aliu only spent one year in the KHL (in 2015/16) and has only had short stints everywhere else he’s played (by my quick math he’s played on 14 teams over the last 6 years and has only suited up for ~125 games in that span. Last stop was last year in the ECHL with Orlando.

There is no way Treliving wanted to fire Peters this year. Not after making a second coaching change in 2 years, not after a 50 win 2nd overall regular season, not giving this core their 4th coach in 6 years. Having said that there are very few levers a GM can pull when a season is going this unexpectedly bad. He can make a trade but typically that is hard to do and it is especially so this year with so many teams up against the cap.

These allegations potentially give Treliving a freebie do over on Peters and make that coaching change 1/3 into the second season after a very successful year one.
