Brodie is not exceptional at defensive play, true. But Oduya's game has declined so much that he's probably worse. He's 35 years old, so that's not a slight against him, but there's a reason he wasn't kept in Chicago, and had to sign a cheap one year contract with a crappy team.

I guess I feel Stone is overrated. He plays against easy competition and starts basically 50/50 in his own end vs the other's team's end, and still, the shot attempts and shots go drastically against him.

I know it seems stupid to get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him because we gave up a 3rd and 5th for him, but we don't want to fall prey to sunken cost fallacy.

Therefore, while I'd like a 1st for him (or an equivalent prospect), I don't know if that's in the cards. Plus, I'd like to see Rasmus Andersson promoted and think it's important to lessen the logjam on defense because that will help with signing Fox.

Those are my reasons. I may be out to lunch.

Hmmmm. Can’t decide how to vote.

Would love a younger scoring winger with term or RFA status preferably right handed who will boost the PP. Would also be happy with a cheap upgrade in the bottom 6. But neither of which seem to have reasonable price tags. For the right price I vote yes to either.

The right price? Willing to part with Fox, Gillies, Kilington, other prospects maybe. Willing to part with some veteran forwards Versteeg (if health allows), Brouwer. No to Jankowski, Valimaki, Anderson, Parsons. Yes to Bennet only for the right return - a young 20-24 yo winger who can score. Preferably RW, preferably big. Someone like Mantha in Detroit.

Likely? No.

Part with Brodie? Only for the right defenseman coming back in the deal.

None of this you say? Then we may not even make the playoffs...

Sell? Yes, maybe. Open to offers on Brouwer, Versteeg, maybe even the right prospect for a first (lol). Likely, not really.

So maybe a depth move is all we will see. Boring

Getting Karlsson is so outlandish that it wouldn’t surprise me if BT did it

The Flames could easily build a package for Karlsson around Hamilton and one of our top D prospects.

I am going pure fantasy mode here for fun.

To Ott: Brodie, Stone, Frolik, Kylington, Mangiapane, Gillies
To CGY: Karlsson, Hoffman

To Ari: Hamilton+Lazar+Fox
To CGY: OEL+ Domi

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hoffman
Tkachuk-Backlund-Domi
Bennett-Jankowski-Ferland
Versteeg-Stajan-Brouwer

OEL-Karlsson
Gio-Hamonic
Kulak-Andersson

Smith
Rittich

If the flames are still out of the playoffs by the deadline then trade Brodie for an excellent winger prospect or two assuming there is a home run deal to be had.

A question which is deeply related to this debate is whether or not the Flames 2018 draft picks are off-limits?

From what I understand the Flames have picks: 3, 4, 4 , 6, 7.

That's slim pickings, so I say that they are indeed off-limits.

Maybe they should look at being sellers? The team is starting to fall off the pace and barring another winning streak they are probably going to be a .500 team the rest of the season. A team looking for center depth at the deadline may inquire about Stajan? Maybe Versteeg may have some value if he can get back in the lineup before the deadline. They should try to get some draft picks back seeing this team isn't deep on wingers organizationally.

Flames need a winger for the Bennett and Janko line. I love Hathaways jam but he needs to be 4th line or farm depth. Perhaps Lazar has deserved a bump up with his play.

Have you looked at our schedule recently? Boston x 2, Nashville, Vegas and a hot Flordia team. After that stretch, we play a lot of teams who aren’t in a playoff position. We’re very much in it till the end.

Sign Iginla if he's interested. We aren't a fast team, and he would currently be an upgrade at 2L RW.

No, he really wouldn't.

OK perhaps a bit overstated - but not by much. Frolik is really bad right now.

I picked buy strictly because Treliving didn’t lottery protect the first dealt for Hamonic, which could end in disaster if they miss. I’d like to see a combo of deals addressing the black hole that is RW, and moving out Stone for picks, clearing a spot for Andersson.

I think moving Stone is a big mistake. He just signed here, he's solid at what he does and I don't think he'll really bring back much in a deal where as Brodie would likely bring back a lot more. Unless a team really overpays for Stone, I'd keep him

And who exactly do the Islanders want for the 1st round pick back?

Rental Backlund would have been a good idea but he's signed now.
