What Calgary really needs is more Marks/Sportchek/Outle store malls. I often find myself driving several minutes without seeing one.

I am sure there are some "signage district" jokes still to be made. Maybe even some "Ace of Base" references? Don't be dismayed.

Now a new mall revealing/renovation is like saying "Hey, McDonalds just released renderings of their new suburb location.

Would a bookstore like Indigo make sense in Southcentre? They could take over Showtime Furniture's space now that the high-end furniture store closed shop a few weeks ago. Plus there's not a single bookstore in the MacLeod Trail area since Chapters (near Buffalo Wild Wings and The Brick) closed last year. The only bookstores near that area are Chapters Shawnessy and Chapters Chinook.

Someone had ranted about it - https://www.reddit.com/r/Calgary/com...erscoles_rant/.

As mentioned in that Reddit post, there was an Indigo in Southcentre years ago.

Which furniture store closed?

The guy who posted the Reddit thread pretty much answers his own question...
Quote:
I went to the Chapters in Shawnessy to buy A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms today and they wanted $38 in store or $23 online. So I said "Okay, I'll do that then", and went home and ordered it on Amazon.
It's not like opening a new store is going to make them drop their prices.

Indigo's refusal to match their OWN pricing off their website is just insane. Complete with a lecture from the employee about how they are different entities.

The same discrepancy exists between Costco and Costco.ca. The former will not match the latter.

Yeah, we need way more Sport Cheks.

Who doesn't want a more convenient location to drop $100 on gym shorts.

I think Costco and Costco.ca price differences exist because of a) shipping costs (added to the website prices) and b) inventory. Sometimes different Costco warehouses discount different items when they have excess inventory

Could be a franchise agreement. Sport Chek and Atmosphere are corporately owned. There are a couple of franchise, but they’re branded differently (Sport Experts). Mark’s is mostly corporate, and franchise can partake in online order generation, but can’t fulfill.

If any of those stores don’t have what you want or the size you want, you can get it ordered from in-store, that’s my job, making that system work.

Canadian Tire is super weird, when you go online, you pick a store and that’s the store you’re actually buying from. They’re entirely franchise and most people probably never realized that. Each store can have completely different pricing if they want, with some exceptions.

It looks like there is a new Costco planned for the deep south off the new ring road, near Anderson.

Nice. Hopefully that will take some of the load off the one in Deerfoot Meadows area. That one is always nuts.

Not sure Anderson Road qualifies as 'deep south', at least not to me. But regardless this is nice win for consumers and the location is good.

When we moved to Calgary in 1997 there was one Costco here. This will be the seventh it the metro region now. Population has gone from ~700k to ~1.3 million in that time
