Really enjoying this show. It's showing Saul before he became Saul, they are doing a good job at developing his character slowly because if they did it all at once there wouldn't be much of a show. Tuco still looks crazy. This looks like him when he just started his career in meth and they touch on his craziness in the desert when he's about to kill Saul.

Breaking bad started off pretty slow too...

Looks like Mike is back next week. It will be interesting to see where that goes. We know from BB that Mike was really Gus' guy and not Saul's despite what Saul might have thought. Is Mike working for Gus at this point or is Gus even operating in Albuquerque in 2002?
Mike is a good character so I can see them giving him a regular role for sure as it would also be nice to develop his character from the beginning and fill the blanks.

In the last episode, Saul tells Tuco to check down at the courthouse about him, how he's a known face, a known guy.

Mike taking tolls, seeing the newcomers etc, would fit with that aspect.

Gus is definitely operating in ABQ in 2002 (RHYME TIME!). They never discussed it much, but if Tuco is working on behalf of the cartels, then Gus is too.

Gus might be wholesaling to Tuco at this point or running other territory, or maybe is just a muscle arm. At this point, it's unclear, but Gus is definitely in the picture there, just completely off the radar.

I loved it so far. It's like Breaking Bad once it hit its stride, plus he doesn't have an annoying wife and kid. When I watched Breaking Bad I skipped every single wife, son, dad scene. Don't feel like I missed a thing.

Probably the best show on TV for me now, not saying much because after Arrested Development and Breaking Bad were gone I haven't watched anything (Archer has become really bad unfortunately). So bring on more Saul, can't wait until the next one.

Spoiler!

Breaking Bad started off much slower than this.

Didn't have any intense scenes like the desert with Tuco until BB season 2, when they approached Tuco with their meth.

The very first scene of the series was just as intense.

I thought it was a good episode, and am really enjoying this show.

I was thinking it was nacho he'd end up working for, but it seems like it is going to be the embezzling family he is going to take on and get started into money laundering, etc. That kind of goes more consistent with what he started out doing with Walt.

I understand the confusion it has caused some people. AMC aired it first after The Walking Dead due to TWDs popularity, but they aired episode 2 the next day, Monday as it is BCSs normal time slot. Here is an article about it from CNN.

Here's the quote: It would be a huge shock if the ratings for "Better Call Saul" -- which will debut Sunday and air its second episode Monday night in what will become its normal time slot -- comes anywhere close to that.

So Mama Cass was right all those years ago. #### Nostradamus!

I'm really liking it so far. Seems like it's lacking in some of the intense cinematic sequences that breaking bad was famous for. However this is in the lawyers style. I love awkward shows. Peep show is the best for that imo although a very different style. But this is definitely worth watching.

Great show so far. Fun to watch for sure and the wife has been along for the whole ride which has surprised me. She's enjoying it now as well.

It's amazing because of two things.

1. How well Saul is written. He's a silvertongue if there ever was one. Can talk his way out of anything.

2. How well Odenkirk does with the role. He's really invested because it seems like watching Saul and not Bob. His demeanor, his charisma, the desperation in his eyes. Just nails it.

Episode 3 was the best so far. Yeah the Mike character is a little bit forced into the show but forgiveable because of how great a character Saul is.

I don't find Mike forced into the show at all. Through a series of montages and narrative extension we have seen Jimmy and Mike have this uneasy, growing tension and interaction. Mike's characterization is consistent, a stone faced pragmatist that relies on his police training and instincts from his days in Philly.

They essentially took 2 and 3/4 episodes to even begin to integrate him, in a meaningful way, into Jimmy/Saul's world.
