Bill Peters discusses the upcoming season (link to interview included)
Bill Peters was on 960 this morning, chattin with Boomer & Krahn.
Made a few interesting comments.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/960/boomer-...ons-next-year/
He dropped this gem
"Looch will get some time with Monny & Johnny"
More or less inferring that if someone goes after Johnny, they will have someone on 1RW to deter this behavior.
He did also suggest that Lucic plays better with a RHC and well, unless Lindholm moves down he's likely going to be tied to Ryan most of the season. Bill then added that he could see Mangiapane on that line to give Lucic some speed & skill.
Bill also inferred that had Valimaki been healthy he would have been paired with Andersson, which lead the radio hosts to accurately speculate that Brodie & Gio would start the season together.
If anyone else heard the interview it was pretty good, feel free to add.

I dont take that as a threat as much as a given.
When the lines go in the blender it was bound to happen occasionally. Which is odd because it presumes that Lindholm is the weakest link there which I dont think is the case at all.
I'm pretty sure the Dmen and goaltender wouldnt be looking forward to seeing that line in front of them.

Lucic-Ryan-Mangiapane makes sense as a line IMO. It is the Jankowski line that is troubling for me. Frolik-Janko-Dube/Czarnik? If 3M stays intact, Bennett-Janko-Dube/Czarnik? Just not sure.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Lindholm was always the guy to move if that lines sputters ... Monahan and Gaudreau seem to be the duo, Lindholm the prized bolt on.
I don't see it as the weakest link, but like a transformer changing out a drill bit hand for a hack saw hand.

I can see that, but hes the backchecker, hes the one who digs the puck out of the corners and hes the real grit on that line.
I can see Lucic playing with the duo, but I dont see it as all that a great a fit.
Who knows, maybe they'll have chemistry.

No I'm with you ... Lindholm is the man on that line.
I think Lucic goes with them after the PK almost game in and game out like Neal did last year. And I think they just insert him in physical games if liberties are being taken.

If I had to guess, Lucic will spend most of his time in the pressbox

The one thing Lucic does have going for him is that he drives possession. I don’t envision that he would be the weak link forcing the line to collapse into the defensive zone.

I suppose it only makes sense for a coach to build up his new acquisition and offer opportunity versus outright stating Lucic will be a bottom 6 before he even skates with his new team. Keep it positive type thing.
In reality, watching Lucic try and keep up reminds me of that old ‘Ice Hockey’ game for Nintendo where the skinny minnies zip around the stationary fat guys who aren’t mobile but are tough to knock off the puck when they finally get possession.

That's just crazy talk.... Everyone knows that Lucic plays hard and out works most people on the ice on most night... you can say he's slow... but he makes up for that with his work ethic... I can see him falling down the lineup to the forth line... but I still see him as being an asset in that lower position. If he lost his work ethic - then yes... I can see him in the pressbox, I just haven't seen that from Lucic in his entire career.

You are both right. Johnny and Monnie are the fixtures. But the addition of a fairly fast, defensive minded, strong forechecking guy like Lindy really put the line over the top last season. I think if you move him off (say to play centre on another line), you need someone like him. Frankly, Frolik, Dube, Mangiapane or Bennett fit the description more than Lucic.

Yes... that's Lucic.... his puck possession numbers are great... and we're a team that loves to move the puck up the ice fast (and passes are faster than McDavid)... so if we get Lucic to get possession and move the puck up the ice... this trade could look great for us.

I think it's going to be incredibly shocking to some fans when they see just how slow Lucic is. Like not even 4th line slow. This guy will definitely be a press box staple by mid-season
