Smart signing. Very low-risk and he can add some playoff calibre to a team that desperately needs it in the wake of last year.

yup, I agree. he was a force in last years playoffs, playing a heavy game, chipping in with points at crucial times. A very good pickup for the Lightning at a very good price.

As the summer winds down, some of the veteran talent still available are accepting value contracts. Doubt the Lightning had a lot of wiggle room cap-wise.

Nice move. Maroon seems to still have a bit left in the tank.

I know this as a fact. I love how they didn’t get him back, and I bet they offered him more money.

I'm actually surprised that he went for less to a contender. I figured that last season was him trying to get his value up.
That being said, Edmonton doesnt have any money to offer, so if you have to take $900K you take it from Tampa way, way before you take it from Edmonton.
You really only pick up the phone when Edmonton calls if literally nobody else is calling.

He may be useful in the playoffs but I'm not sure he's a regular roster player in the regular season as he's really slow now.

If they had won a previous cup or 2 like a dynasty I would say sure. But I feel like a team should legit earn their first cup.

Would have to guess that St.L made the decision that they did not want him back. His line-up spot would be taken by Sammy Blais who played heavy in the playoffs.
Does not make a lot of sense for Tampa except that their bottom-6 is approaching the AHL level... The salary Cap in action -- top 3 guys 9.5 8.5 and Point 8? then 3 guys @ 5.3 5.1 and 5.
They are going with 4 of their bottom 6 at the replacement level.
Next year Vasilevskiy gets cap hit goes up by 6M to 9.5.

I'm was really shocked that Edmonton got rid of Maroon after their only playoff bound season in 12 years at the time (13 now)... He was an integral part of that 2016-2017 team and Edmonton has nothing to show for that trade (I believe). I wonder if Maroon wanted out, since he won't sign there now, there has to be some bad blood there (wonder if it was there before the trade or because of it).

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel strongly that a team needs to earn all of them, all the time.

Even then...Maroon knows exactly how mentally tiring it is to be on the Oilers day to day. Teammates with no confidence and needing mentor ship day in and day out to stay positive in their abilities thst got them to the league, upper management meddling, coaches with their hands tied by said manangment, and battling the overall loser mentality and having to reconcile perputal underachievement.
Nice spot for Maroon, earned solely by the Cup win as a retirement gift, 900k tax free, sunny FLA weather as well.
