Yeah, I don't think that cat's going back in the bag.

My guess is there's a pretty calculated number for each number of years for Tkachuk and the negotiation will be over a couple hundred grand and then mostly each side coming to an agreement on how many years the deal will run.

I don't foresee any major surprises where everyone goes "Wow, he got him cheap!". It'll just either be a big number for 6/7/8 years or a smaller number for less years.

These new contracts are very calculated to the point where that one guy with the website can usually nail an RFA contract down to a couple hundred grand.

Even Gaudreau who many thought was a steal was actually just because of a) no threat of offer sheet and b) 6 years instead of 8. I think people were saying "wizard!!" because of the AAV of $6.8 but really it was shown that it would have likely been $8.5mil to get him here for 8 years.

And there's a cost to that lower AAV, as we basically have to choose between trading him next off season for max return or letting him play out and likely losing him, OR likely paying him $13+AAV well into his mid, possibly late thirties.

I can't believe 11 people actually think he'll miss the season, or even 25 into December. I don't think he'll want to miss any games

Oh it will still be there, if they enter UFA at 26-27 instead of 31.

I think the reason why none of these UFA's have signed is they all want maximum dollars for the amount of years it takes them to UFA.

I don't think the number changes for lesser years.

And I don't think that more years is currently on the table for players.

After all, that is what Matthews and Aho got. The rest want the same deal.

I honestly think the cap adjustment in the first year is a big reason for agents to tell their agents they really can't hold out.

As I said yesterday ... if Tkachuk misses a month his cap hit will be $10+ in the first year on a $8.5M contract.

The only teams that can offer sheet that are teams that have cap space due to budget or rebuilding and wouldn't be prime targets for a player that wants to win.
