No kidding. No ridiculous control scheme (Star Fox Zero) and no silly plastic toy gimmick (Starlink) please, just some solid ship flying and shooting with a passable story and some fun boss fights!

Yeah, a lot of good looking titles, even if it is still many ports.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions as 2020's January Wii U port is a curious decision in my mind. I don't see that being a big seller. Really looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles HD though. I just couldn't play the 3DS version because of the bad resolution.
That Kirby RPG looks kinda interesting for a lark, but the whole "free to start" thing is concerning.
Also, seriously? A hundred ways to cook curry on rice? That's going to make the Pokemon community rather salty.

My son loves Kirby so I grabbed the Kirby Clash game right away. It’s pretty fun, definitely loaded with some F2P mechanics... I haven’t dug in to exactly what they are yet, but it seems like the usual stuff.
Highlights for me were Banjo in Smash today, more DLC characters coming beyond the fighter’s pass, and SNES online. None of the new announcements were super exciting for me in particular, though I suppose I’ll check out the Xeno 1 remake if it comes out at a good time — I imagine it’ll be in the first half of 2020 some time. So, not a whole lot new I’m excited about, but there’s still so much coming in the next few months here I’m not worried about it.

The graphics and performance of the Wii version of Xenoblade were offputting to me when I tried it, so I'm definitely interested in the remaster they're doing. It looks good.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions was an interesting concept but very boring to play, in my opinion. I stopped after about 10 hours because I found the dungeons bland and the combat repetitive. The artwork and interface was nice, though.
I'm definitely most hyped about them finally getting the SNES games in Switch Online. Took them long enough!

Yup. It just came available. It's in the "Nintendo Switch Online" tab of the eshop.

I tried out Stunt Race FX and Star Fox quickly last night to see how accurate the emulation on the SNES games are for the Switch. It looked pretty good to me - same chugging framerate I remember from the original console. The semi truck bonus stage in Stunt Race FX was ~10 fps like usual, and the Star Fox intro got slower and slower as it goes just like before.

I meant to post this in the switch thread...
If anyone has Amazon Prime and a linked Twitch prime account you can get one year of Nintendo Online for free.

Man I know they've been re-released a lot, but having true portable versions of some of these SNES games is really good value. They could've easily sold games like Super Metroid, Zelda: LttP, and Super Mario World separately for like $5 and made a bunch of money. Not to mention all the other included games. Heck I think this is the first official portable version of Super Metroid, period.

They sold most of those games on New 3DS for more money than that.
But the point of putting them on the subscription service is to add value to the subscription service. The attach rate on VC titles in the Wii, Wii U and 3DS eras was likely low. Low enough that even one to two years of Switch Online subscriptions would almost certainly result in greater revenue.

Also a good way to justify future price increases.
Price goes up $5...but we added Nintendo 64 games so it's all good!

That was the rumour this time around. Thankfully didn't come to pass.
I noticed when I was looking at my own subscription settings yesterday that it appears the price of NSO is locked in to what you subscribed at as long as you don't change your subscription settings.

Incidentally, the new Invictus mode for Tetris 99 is interesting. It's the standard game, but available only to players who have won at least one regular match. Only about 85 players managed to queue up for the one game I tried last night, and it goes to hard mode right off the bat. It may be a while before I pick up a win in that mode.

I noticed that it fills up the remaining slots with CPUs so you still have 99 people in Invictus mode. And yeah, it gets real fast at the end. Eventually you have instant drop with a little time to slide around a block, so you need to build your stack with that in mind.
I found a lot of people rely completely on T-Spins and couldn't mount any offense once it went to instant drop speed. If you can survive to Top 30 and can make some small combos continually, you'll probably do well.

Don't expect to see N64 games anytime soon on the Switch, except for maybe Mario 64. Most titles still have lots of bugs when emulated, especially on lower power hardware like the Switch. Mario is the easiest to get running though, so they could put that one out if they optimize it a bit
