Fantastic idea! Maybe the rest of us should visit Cincinnati so we know what you were talking about.

Yeah I guess that was a pretty obscure thing to reference

Plus Cincinnati is a bit of a dump so I’ll save you the trip.

This guys video gives you a bit of a feel for it. It’s a separate building from the stadium (though right beside it) and it’s filled with lots of cool displays and has plaques of all the inductees. It also goes over the history of the team and honours all the legends. The amount of stuff they have on display is quite amazing.

Like I said, a smaller scale of this would be cool. HoF tour starts around the 3:04 mark if anyone is interested.

The counter argument to this might be that the following players are more responsible for Calgarys cup than any of the players on your list:

MacInnis
Mullen
Loob
Gilmour

I love the idea of a ring of honour. I think their heart was in the right place for FaF but execution was horrible. There shouldn’t be two tiers of banners.

Having said that, only Iginla is a clear cut choice for a retirement. MacInnis IMO is the only other who warrants consideration. Retiring Lanny and Vernon was a mistake for such a young franchise.

Lanny and Vernon should be in a ring of honour joining the likes of Niewy, Theo, Loob, Reg, Kipper, and some builders broadcasters such has Maher, Cliff, Crisp, maybe even Darryl.

Not sure how you can exclude Vernon if your criteria is contributing to the Cup win.

I posted on this topic earlier int he year, but would like to see tiered levels of recognition:

Tier 1: Retired Jersey in rafters
Lanny
Vernon
Iggy

Tier 2: Individually Recognized in the concourse (Ring of Honour)
Lanny
Vernon
Niewy
Macinnis
Fleury
Iginla
Kiprusoff
Giordano

Tier 3: Team History (Hall of Fame type area that tells the story of the Flames with photos, etc.) - this area should be publicly accessible in the concourse of the new building, almost like a museum exhibit
-Franchise Inception, Relocation and History
-Corral & Saddledome
-1986, 1989, 2004
-Awards
-Key Players: Lanny, Vernon, Niewy, Macinnis, Fleury, Iginla, Kiprusoff, Giordano, Nillsson, Mullen, Reinhart, Regehr, Hunter, Backlund, Suter, Loob
-Key Builders: Owners, D.Sutter, Badger Bob, Al Cotes, Bearcat Murray, Ed Whalen, Peter Mahar

Why is Forever a Flames dumb, but not Ring of Honour?

Aren't you creating just another tier from retired numbers?

But seemingly opening it up to pretty much everyone.

Well, yes, but a ring of honour would allow the Flames to commemorate a bunch of players without filling the roof of the building with a Canadiens-level number of banners.
It could also make the fan experience more interactive and engaging than simply looking up at the sky, depending on how the idea was implemented. I love the idea of a museum-type installment.

You guys keep leaving out Gretzky's 99 when talking about retired Flame jerseys.

Because it's not a retired "Flames jersey". It's a retired NHL number.

Needs less Kent Nilsson.

Had all the talent in the world but rarely brought it consistently, certainly not in the playoffs.

I like Forever a Flame, just don't like having the banners in the rafters. So I like this idea

Vernon was maybe premature, but Lanny number deserved it.

500 gp as a flame including playoffs:

Jarome Iginla
Mark Giordano
Robyn Regehr
Al MacInnis
Theoren Fleury
Joel Otto
Jim Peplinski
Mikael Backlund
Gary Suter
Jamie Macoun
Gary Roberts
Joe Nieuwendyk
Miikka Kiprusoff
T.J. Brodie
Matthew Stajan
Tim Hunter
Mike Vernon
Craig Conroy
Lanny McDonald
Håkan Loob
Paul Reinhart
Sean Monahan (currently 9 games shy)
Gaudreau (86 games shy)

Make it 300gp for goalies and you can add Lemelin. Figure out a # for coaches, GMs, and broadcasters (but separate from players)

Do it chronologically based on when they hit game 500 (list above is just reg season gp order).

Reichel, Glencross, Colin Patterson, Stern, Langkow are the guys that are close but don't make the cut...which feels about right.

I'd have another display specific to individual and team awards (division/conference winning regular seasons go here instead of the rafters). MacInnis and Nieuwendyk will both be here again, so their stupid half banners can come down (personally I'd be okay with #2 being official if 14 was their, too; 25 in the absence of 14 is laughable).

If it were up to me I'd probably only have #12, and the cup banners hanging, but more realistically: 9, 12, 14, 30, 34, Campbell x2, Pres x2, and Cup.

Not calling any sort of ring of honor type display “Eternal Flames” would be a real missed opportunity. FaF is a dumb name.

It's not as awful as "Forever a Hitmen".
