When I first got into metal, I could only tolerate very traditional "heavy metal" and did not get the appeal of the more intense sub-genres.
Now some of my favourite bands are ones that would sound like pure noise to most people. I can't explain it, but it just works for me. Meanwhile I also love jazz oddly enough.
For example, when I want a good album to fall asleep to I can either put on some very slow dark jazz like Bohren & Der Club of Gore, or some intense grind like Pig Destroyer.
This album is pure sex.

Ulver. Too heavy for this guy. Also the Deicide and Cannibal Corpse spectrum of Heavy metal is too heavy for me as well. I generally enjoy many different genres of music but really tend to connect more with the deeper emotional side of things via lyrics or the tone of the music. So I guess I am a fan of heavy music all around.
