For anyone who has spent time enjoying live music/Broadway in Saskatoon, you have undoubtedly ended up putting a pint or two back at Lydia's.
My first experience at Lyd's would go back about 13 years.. I was 17 years old and one of my favourite bands at the time (Tegan and Sara) were playing there. I used fake ID I had crafted at SGI with my brothers identification to get in with a buddy, and we were able to take in the whole show.
It was a glorious night and one I will always remember. Since then I have spent many a blacked out night in that pub, fooseball, pool, live music, sub par food and even worse service. But the beer was always good and always cheap. Girls loved flocking there to for some reason, even the snootiest of east side chicks could be found there and subsequently hit on by lowly westside scrubs like myself.
Lyds will always hold a special place in my heart, and it is a sad time to see 20+ years of history closed down.
So if you ever graced the grimy pub known as Lydia's before, raise your next pint in memory.
