You think given the 2 options that $23 million in real dollars difference didn't matter to an ownership group that has not had long playoff revenue in years?
Also, anyone thinking in 4 years were forced to protect Lucic, I will give you 100-1 odds right now, minimum $100 bet!
The Flames options were:
1. Write a 15 million dollar check and save 4 million in cap space to make the team better
2. Save 7 million real dollars, and gain a small amount of cap space and a 4th line plug
3. Keep our 4th line plug
|
Option one if winning the Stanley Cup is a priority.

I feel like I can happily say that the Canucks won this trade.

Just because you put Lucic in your mock up doesn't mean you get to spam a highly viewed thread with a random trade proposal.

Yeap, but the oilers are retaining $600k on Lucic, so in essence they are now carrying $6,350,000 cap hit after this transaction, while the Flames now carry $5,400,000 cap hit on Lucic.

23 million reasons to choose the other option though.
And an argument could be made IF (big IF) you took 23 million and spent on trainers, coaches, scouts, facilities, it would do more for the team.

GOAT!

The main difference is that Neal will play on the top line in EDM with McDavid, and he wasn't going to get on the top line here with CGY, because EDM does EDM things with their roster and CGY does non-EDM things with their roster.
So (provided no other trades occur), here it's going to be
Gaudreau Monahan Lindholm
Tkachuk Backlund Frolik
Mangiapane Ryan Lucic
Yadda Jankowksi Yadda
and in EDM, it's going to be
Garbo Garbo Garbo
Garbo Garbo Garbo
Garbo Garbo Garbo
Garbo Garbo Garbo

Absolutely. Lucic hits and can fight. Neal brings absolutely nothing but a whiny attitude.

It sucks that we are even in the position where we had to make this move. ####ing Neal. What a disaster he was. I can't really blame Tre for signing him because he received mostly kudos when the signing was made.

Seeing Lucic on a flames line up is just gross. Better than seeing Neal there, but still gross

Lucic at 5.4M for the Flames is no doubt terrible but Neal, in essence, at 6.35M for the Oilers is significantly worse. They need Neal to bounce back huge or somehow they turned one of the worst contracts in the league into an even bigger burden. Which is such an Oilers thing to do.

Not meaning to highjack the thread.. just obvious that we need to still make trades and I’m intrigued to see the mock lineups with Lucic included. He doesn’t look so bad opposite Bennett.

Yes I fully realize that, but Neal wasnt crippling us like Lucic was up there. There is far more upside in Neal going to the Oilers as they have room due to their craptastic roster to put him on the top 2 lines. So he becomes a potential solution for them rather than a hindrance.
We end up with a slow tough guy who might provide some grit. yay

I've seen different cap hits cited.
What are the confirmed cap hits for both players

They'll probably give Neal a year and then buy him out

To add to that if Neal isn't scoring he is pretty much nothing more than just a scratch. We signed him to score goals in the top 6, he didn't.
Lucic can at least stir up trouble if he isn't scoring. Hopefully Peters keeps him in check in terms of committing game misconducts and what not.

Last few weeks have been really good for the Canucks. They got Ferland for decent contract and avoided taking on Lucic while curiously watching the Alberta teams swapping goaltenders and boat anchors.
