Not the best deker, but don't underrate his shot. He gets it off very well.

Bourque's game is a lot more solid all-around than Kobasew's. He's contributing even if he's not scoring. That said Kobasew hit 20 last year, so whilst he may be inconsistent, he's not exactly a one hit wonder either.

I'm more thinking of his hands when he tries to take a pass while skating. If it isn't perfect, he's either having to slow down to let his hands catch up to his skates, or it's deflected off the toe of his stick into the corner where he has to outrace the opposition to get it. He doesn't seem to be that good at taking a less than perfect pass and making it work.

Yeah, with Moss healthy and on pace for 26 goals and Giordano back in the fold....maybe Ference and Kobasew were expendible after all.
I was wondering if Bourque could be a potential target going back to last years trade deadline, I think KFF and I both predicted he'd be a guy the Flames would acquire at the draft. But I figured he might score 15-20 goals and fit the Flames identity as a good skater who could muck it up on the boards. I never expected this type of production out of him.

I was just looking a the team stats and I see that not only is Bork in 5th place in points (29), 2nd place in goals scored (15 of which 13 of them are even strength), but he leads the team in +/- with +14!
I LIKE BORK!!!!
Bork has become my favorite player on the team.

I said it before. Rene is looking like a rookie version of Jarome Iginla.. Im not saying he is equal or will have a career like Jarome, I just think he posses alot of the qualities we see in our Captain.
The shot, the quickness, the nastiness, the great boardwork and knows how to use his size.

I loved this guy when he was in Chicago...Was happy with the pickup, exceeded expectations if he pots 25 or more...turning into a legit 2nd line player...Cant see him not keeping it up

Agreed, Bourque has been able to assert his on-ice presence in a way most NHL'ers cannot. Even if you took his numbers off, I could always pick out which flame is Bourque.

Damn you Igitang, I had never thought of it like that. You know, you always wish and hope that someone would come along and be that magical diamond in the rough, now you got me having higher hopes for BORK! than i ever thought i could.

Ya know... if he continues to learn and get better and manages to stay healthy, I dont see why he couldnt come close to that mark over his career.
If you are compairing Jarome's #'s, thats a bit unfair.. Jarome is such a special player. Bourque just has the same style and tenacity as Jarome.
I dont necessarily see Bork possesing the leadership skills or class Jarome does.
However, I can see Bork taking control of games while he is on the ice by the way he plays and the way he sees the ice.
Oh wait... we already have .. 9 Multi-point games, 1 Hatty, 2 2-goal games.

you see it IN him... just that not all of them would come out
With that said... Bourque has been a very welcomed addition to the Flames. Hits, Skates and puts up decent amount of points!

No, I wasnt being sarcastic. Im not saying I now think he is Iginla reborn, but they do have the same style, and he is learning from the man himself. Maybe he will be, thats all im saying, i never actually thought about him like that before you posted it.

Bourque 4th year in NHL 2008-2009 Flames 41 15 14 29 14
Iginla 4th year in NHL
1999-2000 Flames 77 29 34 63 0
Ive never done the pro rating thing, but they look close?
I guess we shall see in the next 2-3 years if he continues to gets better or plateaus.

I hear ya. I also think next year Moss could be playing at the level Rene is right now. That would be quite welcomed.

Anyone else watch Score Tonight? The past few times (not on last nights episode), but episodes before that, whenever Bourque scored a goal, Sid would always say 'BORK BORK BORK'. This is the same place that started the Dion Phaneuf 'bapadapada' song,
Maybe Sid Seixeiro reads CP?
