What did you expect from Francis? His mouth opens and all the crap comes with it.

Friedman has been saying for weeks. Markstrom hates the rumors and speculation and doesn't want to hear it. And the Flames know and won't approach him unless they have something real to discuss.

Francis hears that and pesters him directly. Never change, Eric.

Disagree. Goalies in general don't carry high value. The Kuemper trade is high side of any recent goalie trade. If the Flames want wildly more than that than they may as well say he isn't available.

I'm 98.69...% sure the answer to that is Darryl Sutter. Lots has been said by players and media about the headgames he played with Markstrom last season.

Not sure I agree with this. For a team like COL, Markstrom could be the difference between winning a Cup or not. For a team like LAK or TOR, it could be the difference between making the playoffs or cleaning house.

Lol, Francis asking a question all of us have wondered about (and will read). And some think it’s a bad thing?

Or goalie voodoo strikes and he turns into Ryan Miller and flops. The trade market has never really given great value for goalies. The highest trade value I remember is Schneider to the Devils and he was young and had gaudy stats.

I don't think Markstrom is the goalie that bucks that trend.

I think becoming a father played a big part. It's too much of a coincidence he started playing better after his wife gave birth.

That's not to say he didn't need to find a way to overcome that because he did.

Thankfully he's rebounded, I would definitely look to move him because I don't trust him not to crater his value again, and Wolf is waiting for a spot while dominating the AHL for the 3rd straight season. Plus, they have Vladar so they don't have to immediately throw Wolf into a heavy starters work load, and can bring him along gradually.
I'm just glad he rebounded.
If he's traded or stays, glad his time in Calgary wasn't ended on that terrible period of play.
He's a likeable guy and good goalie (usually) so wouldn't have been good to see things end like that.
Not to mention the trade value would have sucked too.

What? You dont wonder?

He went from a Vezina finalist to the WORST starting goaltender in the NHL.

In 1 season.

People will want to blame Sutter. The guy who had just won the Jack Adams for 'Best Coach in the NHL.'

These things do not add.

Sometimes, people have bad years in their lives, regardless how much money they might make in their career. Obviously you haven't experienced this before, but it happens. Harping on it continuously for almost 2 years is... well, yeah.

Perfect response from Markstrom. He's not running upstairs asking for a trade, not has he. As with any player, it's up to the team to ask and he seems pretty comfortable here and I hope we keep him.
Nevermind the goalie market is soft overall. I'm sure the Flames would be happy to move on Vladar but nothing has come close there yet.

Francis was just really really hoping Markstrom would've had a different response so he could get quoted by every blog and radio and TV show by breaking a big story.

“i don’t control it."

“whatever direction they want to go, and what they want to do, i’m not going to force anything."

So is he implying he will waive his NMC? Markstom runs the show.

I take it more as he isn’t asking for a trade but it’s not a hard no

I get that and thats fine, but come on. You dont go from being in the conversation for an award for being the best to all of a sudden to being the worst without a couple questions being asked?

Considering what the Flames got back in the Lindy trade, Any trade for Marky would have to be equivalent or more.

Given that the Flames are still technically "in the hunt" for a playoff spot, I don't expect Markstrom will be moved unless it's a return that will melt faces when reported.

Plus it'd have to be a team that Markstrom would agree to go to.

I'm more expecting him to be traded in the summer, if at all.

Hopefully he continues to build his value.

Sure, but almost a full 2 seasons after it happened? And during a season where he's been arguably the team's best player? I don't know, do what makes you happy, I guess? Just seems like it's time to move on. Clearly, nobody feels he was good at that time, and everyone would agree with you, but for some reason, we're still having to read about it almost 2 seasons after. I'll stop though as it's clear I'm not convincing you. Have at 'er.
