He does have a full NMC. So he's wrong when he says he has no control, as he controls what happens. But I read it that if a deal does come up, he will at least consider it and won't impede the team from going the direction they want.
Kind of torn what I want to happen with him. On one hand he's rebounded back to being a top goalie and you simply cannot downplay that kind of stability, regardless if you are rebuilding or not. But he also deserves to go on a cup run and that's not happening here. I'm fine if he wants to play out his contract here. Solid leader, locker room presence and the ideal mentor for Wolf.

Moving Markstrom is key to speeding up this retool / rebuild whatever you want to call it. The Ls will pile up, the return would be good and it gives you space to take on cap dumps which unfortunately we saw can return 1st rounders in itself.

Don’t give him away but if you can get something substantial go for it. Not gonna lie. Getting a haul for 2 “free” assets in Tanev and Markstrom would help erase some of the sting of past losses.

Conroy just burning what Treliving built to the ground.
Good.

I would't read into what he said as that. I think he said the right things to Francis without coming flat out and saying I don't want to move right now. I know teams have asked about Markstrom, the fact the Flames have not even discussed it with him yet speaks volumes. The organization knows he wants to stay, they don't particularly want to trade him right now either. As I have said for months, it will take a massive overpayment for them to even approach him about moving.

I think if a team offers a 1st+ with no retention they will ask him to waive.

If you think that was all Markstrom you are mistaken. There's a long line of players on this team that let that series slip away.

To be more precise, there's a long line of players who were on this team that let that series slip away. Not too many of them are still on the roster.

Treliving did a good job of that himself before he pulled the chute. Conroy merely inherited the carnage that he's already managed to polish into more than it should be.

That + is going to have to be huge or they most certainly won't.

You have to think this has already been discussed with Conroy...

I agree, Markstrom has the most value of any of our trade chips. A 1st from a contender will not be the centerpiece for a deal.

Markstrom was so bad against the oilers in the playoffs, and then cratered the Flames season last year. It was so bad most (if not everyone) believed his contract immovable.
Thankfully he's rebounded, I would definitely look to move him because I don't trust him not to crater his value again, and Wolf is waiting for a spot while dominating the AHL for the 3rd straight season. Plus, they have Vladar so they don't have to immediately throw Wolf into a heavy starters work load, and can bring him along gradually.

Agreed. I think he just tacitly admitted he would waive for the right destination.
Basically, how I read it; "it's up to the Flames to present me with something. I'm not tearing up my NMC. I'll look at anything they send me, when they do that's when it will get real.'
Very professional/classy.

That's all? Seems low if we are selling high on him. He is peaking now.
Maybe a shut out tonight gets us Mercer and and 1st?

Yeah that "interview" was handled as well by him as possible especially with Francis' desire to make waves. I am sure everyone recognizes that with the flames retooling and Wolf being blocked, that him or Vladar have to go next year and with him only having a couple prime years left and a decent trade value it's probably in everyone's best interest for it to be him going to a team trying to go on a run.
Looking at the flames goalie depth with Chechelev going back over and Yegorov still in the minors in Russia that the flames need to use a pick on a goalie this year or to sign a euro/ncaa free agent. Sergeev is looking great this year but could use another decent prospect or two and the flames can probably attract some of the better FAs given the opportunity on the farm next year.

People have recency bias. Last year's Markstrom had none to limited trade value; this year, he has trade value. Flames are not competing for the cup in the next few years. If the right deal comes up, you absolutely trade him.

Yeah. Play him. Inflate that value.
I'd love to know why he was absolute dog-crap last season.
