Default Francis: Markstrom keeping open mind

https://twitter.com/user/status/1755674013656117352

Quote:
asked for the first time about the rampant speculation surrounding where he might play out the remaining two years of his deal, the 34-year-old netminder confirmed in a quiet, one-on-one chat the ball is in management’s court.

“it’s up to calgary, what they want to do,” said markstrom, who will start tonight in new jersey.

“that’s what it comes down to.

“i don’t control it.

“whatever direction they want to go, and what they want to do, i’m not going to force anything.

“i’m not going to go up and meet and ask for a trade either.

“i’m here to play, i’m enjoying every day and we’ve got a great group.”
Quote:
asked if the flames had already approached him to see if he’d waive his no-trade clause, markstrom was candid.

“no,” he said.

“we’ll see.

“when they send an email that i’ve got to sign something to remove my no-move clause, then it’s a different conversation we’ve gotta have.

“but i’m just playing”

I’m a big fan of Markstrom. Such a great leader to have in the club.

It's pretty clear he prefers to be a Calgary Flame.

Maybe. But it also appears he understands things are changing quickly here as well.

I do believe the Flames won't move Markstrom for nothing short of an overpay. So if Marky gets that email, it's the real deal.

I think he has as much trade value this summer if not more since more teams will be able to adjust their cap situation to fit in a $6M goalie. It seems inevitable that he is moved sooner or later. Wolf can't be waived next year, and highly unlikely they go with three-headed goalie monster

Have to say I'm not a big fan of this. The club clearly has put out the message that they don't want the player bothered by this, and that they will not approach the player on a purely speculative basis.

Francis crushed both of those efforts. I get that he's allowed to do it, but still...

I hope he sticks around. Wolfs NOT ready yet regardless of what people say.

Wolf is not going to step into the net and Kipper his way into being a 50 game starter for at least 2 years. As much as even I would love that let's also make sure we have a team who can play well in front of him and actually produce some goals .

This team is taking baby steps right now unfortunately

would still be very surprised if they traded him mid-season. If it happens, I would think that's an offseason move.

That random Reddit poster who called the Kuzmenko-Lindholm deal 4 hours before anyone else posted yesterday that some teams have asked the Flames about Markstrom's medical history.

He's been dynamite this year! but I still can't get over his choke against the Oilers in the playoffs. Trade him to the East!

It would be nice if he could keep up the strong play and we could actually retain on him next year and get even more. Not really expecting him to get traded though, just as long as he's not our goalie next time we are in the playoffs or need to win.

So I guess that post I read earlier about him only wanting to waive for LA wasn't accurate.

i think you have to deal the guy for sure if you get even a slight underpay. this will be maximum value and like its been discussed even yesterday on Barn Burner....never know when goalies will randomly collapse.

This year- it seems Markstrom has value. Next year- there's no guarantee.
