Will always be severely underrated by some because he didn't put up points, but he was a damn beauty and one of the critical components of that '04 run. Wish the Flames had a clone of him.

A clone of him would be such an asset in the game today. Would love to see a modern Regehr doing that to McDavid when he tries to cut wide. Over and over again.

Flames need some Regehrs in the lineup. I still don't understand that aweful trade with the Sabres to dump salary when the Flames got back a player that also had an unfavorable cap hit (probably shorter term, but still...).

Didn't need him to get points or be flashy - just need all oppositions to be afraid to enter the Flames end. After he left, every team dominated the Flames in their own zones.

That would be beautiful. Or even just stand the blue-line while McDavid gathers speed and be an immovable object.
I'd love to have a new Regehr. Just a tough, smart but mean no-nonsense blueliner.

He and his wife are good people. Our kids played lacrosse on together for a few years.
I've only met him twice and sadly the second time was on a flight to Toronto where he was catching another flight to Buffalo.
When we got there I asked him to body-check me into the side of the plane for a photo but he didnt want to risk Airport Security getting us both stuck at Pearson and unfortunately I didnt have any Flames gear to ask him to sign.
I do remember him telling me as we got off the plane though:
"I know you recognized me when I got on, thanks for leaving me alone."
I told him I was sad to see him go.
I wouldnt want to be harassed by some fan while trapped on a 5 hour flight. Of course I left him alone. That would be a nightmare.
I like my celebrity interactions to be brief, comical and memorable.
Chatting to someone for 5 hours who is trapped on a Plane sounds like the premise of a horror movie.

Yeah it's kind of funny but during practices I always left him alone while other people did the fan thing as he's kind of a quiet guy that didn't seek out attention. I only really talked to him if he approached me. Alain Chevrier is the opposite as he loves to socialize as we have talked about his Cowboys days, etc. Great guy also.
That is why you've got to teach players to take a hit.
By bitching out of the hit Polak got smoked. If he'd just stood his ground and taken that hit it would have been just a commonplace check between two big guys.
I learned this in Rugby, trying to avoid an inevitable hit will get you killed. Taking a perfectly commonplace and legal hit? Its going to hurt, but you'll be fine.
