Friedman's 31 thoughts - Oct 10 - Some Bennett Talk
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...liam-nylander/
Only 1 Flames related item:
Quote:
1. A quick whistle erased Sam Bennett’s first goal of the season Tuesday night in Nashville, but he did play 13:27 — his highest of the year. He saw 8:47 and 7:01 in the opening two games against Vancouver. The list of teams who’ve inquired about him through the years includes Anaheim, Montreal, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. I’m not convinced the Flames want to trade him, knowing he’s 22 and could blossom elsewhere. Just something to watch, as he searches for a fit with a new coach and changed roster.

Lanny McDonald Whiskey coming soon!
Quote:
31. Coming soon to a liquor store near you: NHL Alumni Whisky. Several retired players went to the JP Wiser’s factory to create their own concoctions and be part of the process. The first three are to be launched this month, from Wendel Clark, Lanny McDonald and Larry Robinson. As a Scotch/whisky person, I’m looking forward to trying it. If I were Ron MacLean, I’d probably say Clark’s will pack a mighty punch.
|
Also a funny story involving former Flame Alex Chiasson:
Quote:
17. Best story heard from the Capitals’ Stanley Cup celebration: The morning after they won, the travelling party could not find Alex Chiasson for the bus ride to the airport.
“We were like, ‘Where is this guy?’” said Mike Vogel, well-known to fans for writing the “Dump ’N Chase” blog at washingtoncaps.com. “We went knocking on the door and there was no answer…. So security opens the door, and there’s no one in this room.”
They packed his stuff, stepped out of the elevator into the hotel lobby and walked right into Chiasson. He had been in Starbucks.
“He said, ‘That’s not my luggage; mine is on the bus.’ I said, ‘No, we went to your room and packed it.’ He said, ‘No, it’s on the bus.’”
It turned out Chiasson was unhappy with his original room and changed it.
“I can’t imagine this guy going back to his room and… ‘Why is all my stuff packed?’”

Early indications from T.O.'s potent offense is that they don't need Nylander... may as well try to trade him for depth help. Of course, it's only been a couple of games.
Edit: Woah guys. I never implied that the Flames should trade for him. Just that Toronto should unload him for a D-man.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Flames can't afford Nylander. We've been over this. A lot.
Doubt any of those teams made recent offers or ones that would help the Flames a bunch. Nothing to see here I think.

Early indications may be that the Flames don't necessarily need him either! Of course there's always room for upgrades, and there will inevitably be injuries, but it does seem like the Flames have pretty good forward depth at the moment. At his salary demands, Im not sure the upgrade is necessarily worth it.

They can’t afford not to get him. He has been seen drinking green smoothies with Gaudreau

Nylander for Bennett plus? I didn't know Risebrough was now the GM for the Leafs.

I am curious among these Nylander acquisition proposals to see posters thoughts about how the Flames manage to afford him against their cap beyond this year.
I think his contract $ is too high for what he provides, and this prevents any remotely plausible deal from occurring between the Flames and Maple Leafs.

If anybody could sign Nylander to a good contract, it's Mr. Wizard.

He is getting at least $7.0 m. I don't think he is worth it.

Why would the Leafs do that?
They are going to want quality in return.

Ouch. I get what you mean but that's a little harsh as those players can play.

Bennett+Hamonic+Kylington/Andersson+Pick is a better package imo
Then trade Frolik if there is cap trouble.

Are there any leaked numbers for what each camp wants for Nylander's contract?

Bennett playing the way he is to start the year is going to be a very good Calgary Flame than you very much.
Bennett looks primed to be a big part of this team’s depth moving forward.

Oh, my bad.
Too rich then - Andersson is going to be solid and the pick is unnecessary. The Leafs need Hamonic more than the Flames need Nylander. Hamonic is exactly what the Leafs need. Don't forget that the Leafs can't afford Nylander long term either.
I'd go Neal, Hamonic for Nylander and a pick.

But yeah, Nylander will get something good. And then he'll get injured or something stupid.
