Really? That’s what you got from my post? Pat Quinn was a NHL coach for thirty years and twice led his teams to the Stanley Cup Finals. Dallas Eakins did not last even two seasons coaching the worst team in the League, and has a career winning percentage under 0.400.

Nobody but you thought that I was drawing a meaningful comparison between the two.

And yet the way you worded your post did exactly that.

Gultuzan isn't a great coach, and Peters is obviously a huge step up, but let's not act like the additions of Lindholm and Hanifin, plus the emergence of Rittich, didn't play an enormous part in the Flames becoming a 1st place team.

Both goalies won 20+ games. Rittich improved on his previous season by 11 wins.

However, it can be argued that if Gulutzan had simply kept Gio/Brodie together, put Dougie on the 2nd pair and let Gio be Norris Gio for two years, he'd still have his job.

This is seriously a win win situation for Flames fans.

Eakins does bad, laugh because it's the hated Ducks. Eakins does good, laugh because it makes the greasers look so much worse.

Or just laugh because we can imagine Getzlaf doing the dog roll on ice
that ought to be worth the price of admission

Well you brought up Quinn as having an equally bad record. Point being that even good coaches have had no success up there.

Pretty hard for fans to judge who is and isn’t a good coach most of the time IMO.

Regardless of their coach, I don’t see the Ducks as a major threat so who cares.

Eakins is a good coach. The Oilers are what they are: coach and player killers. He will do well in Anaheim.

Eakins can win every game against the Oil, and perhaps enough others for the Ducks to finish second last (ahead of the Oilers). That's about it as far as my well-wishing.

Also the Ducks have now given Dave Nonis a promotion from consultant to Assistant GM.
