Canada dominating NZ but a lack of killer instinct.

Hopefully they convert a couple in the 2nd half. And hopefully it’s Sinclair to get that pesky record out of the way.

That was a fantastic save by the New Zealand keeper, I thought for sure that was the second goal for Canada.

Sinclair could easily have 3 today.

Canada will have to win against Netherlands to take first place in the group.

Happened to run into the US team in Paris today as they were leaving the hotel...Melia La Defense for those wanting to make prank calls. Lol.

Pretty funny moment with the check-in guy tho. He goes, "do you guys like footballers??". This was after we saw the big bus and a few of them wandering around. We say "Yes, but just not American ones! We are Canadian". He says "Don't worry, no one likes Americans". Wifey and I had to laugh at that.

China absolutely does not want to score because if they score they will get the US.

I wonder what Spain wants to do?

Always funny when the Table is more interesting than the game.

I'm trying to figure out how the playoff seeding works and I'm not sure how anyone can know who is going to play who yet? I'm sure there are more likely scenarios than others, but there are still so many possible combinations I'm not sure you should be playing to try and place in a certain position?

Top 2 each pool plus 4 best 3rd place finishers move on.

Its predetermined before the tourney where you place in the round of 16 based on where you finish in your pool.

For example if Canada wins their final game they play 2nd in group D (England or Japan most likely), if they lose they play 2nd in group F (USA or Sweden).

I find Wikipedia is usually pretty good for things like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_F...Knockout_stage

I have to say, I do not like the VAR. I am not even sure it’s more accurate, but I am sure that it absolutely kills soccer as a spectator sport. It’s not been pleasant in these World Cup games, but I was watching a Copa game between Ecador and Uruguay where they used it on a foul. They stopped the game for 10—15 minutes to change a card from yellow to red. It completely killed my interest in the game and I fast forwarded the rest of the way.

The best part of soccer has always been the continuity and the lack of timeouts/commercials, this new policy completely wrecks the flow of the game. Hawkeye was a good thing to add, but the VAR has not moved the game forward at all. In fact VAR would not prevent the most egregious corruption in football anyway.

I don't know what's up with the format, but with all this talk of teams being in situations where they don't want to win/score, surely there's got to be a better way.

I think the intent behind VAR and the implementation are two different things. It’s supposed to be taking care of those egregious mistakes; you know where a player is 3 feet offside and the officials miss it and it leads to a goal. Things like that. Instead it’s little nit picky issues that you can only see in slow motion. It’s just gone too far in a lot of cases.

And it should be more like the VAR in rugby where you can hear the off-pitch official and you know what’s being discussed and what they’re looking at. You have a rationale for why it’s a penalty or whatever, not just the decision.

There is no grey area with video replay in any sport. That why fans are reluctant to bring it despite outrage about it.

I'm not a fan of video review on fouls or decisions of interpretation. I am a fan of Hawkeye on line calls.
