Yeah the Blazers name would have been well received. I mean there were some die hard Blazers fans here. However I think they wanted to let that name go and start over fresh.

I dont mind the Barons, its a cool name. I am not a huge fan of the colors but hey , I get to watch better hockey than central hockey league. I actually had heard that Wildcatters was a name suggested and I liked that name. However Barons it is, when do the Heat come to town?

Well the opposing teams with be better ... However i dunno how well the fans here will like AHL hockey . The average on the edge of being a hockey fan here in OKC went to the Blazers games cause they liked to see fights. Fights were common before the game, I saw many a goalie fight before the game. People ask me will they fight ? I saw not much but the skill will be heads and shoulders better. They say "then what are we gonna watch?"

We will see how it unfolds I guess... I am excited!

i think it will be well received. i caught a couple chl games when i was in tulsa this winter, and i think the leagues do have similar styles. the ahl just has a lot more skill to it. additionally, i feel like the ahl has some of the best hitting and fighting because the players are more skilled. having seen games in most of the mid level leagues, i think the ahl probably is more physical and tough than many of the lower levels that try to pride themselves more on the 'goonish' type stuff. obviously you aren't going to see line brawls and goalie fights that often, but the game to game action is pretty good IMO.

p.s. nicker - the 2nd link in your sig doesnt work.

It is pretty interesting to note the number of times the minor league affiliate of the Oilers have moved to different Canadian cities over the years. The franchise is moving to the US for the first time and playing out of the newly renovated Cox Convention Center (13,399 seater). Would that be a AHL high in terms of capacity?

MTS and I think Copps are bigger, as well as the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Toyota Center in Houston and AT&T Center in San Antonio.

EDIT: Cleveland too now I think of it.

I hope this is a sign that the AHL is moving more teams out west. Salt Lake City needs another AHL team that has proper management. The ECHL is not a league that people should pay money to watch.

Well today I am going on a tour of the Cox Center in the Barons attempt to get me to buy season tickets . I wouldnt mind buying them but they are in the top 10 of AHL in tickets prices and them was the last place team in the AHL last year. Couple that with that fact that most places like the red hawks or thunder would give us 9 months to pay off season ticket balances. The Barons only have 3 month window. They have only sold 1500 season tickets thus far.

... really I just wrote this to say I meet the guy at 2:30 .He gave me the spill about how rich in history the Oilers franchise was and how great of a team the Parent team is , how we should want to see the kids before they go on to greatness with the big club. I contained my laughter and made sure that I wore my Calgary Flames polo for today!
