Copyrighted in 1937, Stock Ticker may be the greatest board game ever created. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but there is nothing more hilarious than watching your friends pursue an insane risk portfolio of pure gold stock, only to watch it tumble off the market and your friend have to take out a loan. Brilliant game.

Well, given that TI was a success, perhaps I should schedule a Game of Thrones (2nd ed) night!
Who would be interested?

Thanks for the game.

With the trade strategy, I should have only approved my contracts.

I'm in - I'll bring the official expansion cards for a second game if it fancies anyone.

Fallcon just ended on Sunday. Took part in Eclipse, great game and substitute for TI but not a replacement for TI.

But then when someone else did it, they would have just cancelled all agreements and it wouldn't have gained you anything. Howevert, you almost always had trade, so it might have worked, except then it would have made it much more likely that someone else would have taken it before you.
I suspect Trade (and cash flow in general) is more important for races that require big spending for purchasing large fleets or to develop tech etc. If you would have turned it into a trade war and essentially turned off all that cash, you would have most hurt Seb and most benefit me, because I only required minimal cash, since buying large fleets was not part of my strategy and I got enough free tech that I was able to advance without putting money into anything but ships.
Now, if you and Aenaes had 'teamed up' and between the 2 of you kept the trade strategy, and just maintained a single agreement between yourselves, that would have been certainly viable. I also think having each player with 2 strategies meant that it was more likely that trade was taken as a second option than it would have been in a 5 or 6 player game.
I think it might be a valid strategy though, for at least the early portion of the game. ie build up and then lash out.

Played Lost Cities tonight with the wife after buying it on the recommendation of this thread. Great 2 player game, easy setup, quick play and simple rules. Thanks CP!

There are a number of on-line sites where you can play versions of real board games.
This is probably the biggest (Aeneas and I kid a friend that plays this - his opponents are surely German Insomniac pre-teens):
http://www.brettspielwelt.de/?nation=en
http://www.gametableonline.com/welcome.php
Some game companies are ok with it, and others claim copyright. I think they would all be wise to allow it, because if people like the game, they will certainly buy the board game.
Some companies offer their own on-line games:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/online/en/play/
On-line Games
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/pa...om=Online_Play
There are many places to play eurogames or wargames online, whether you want to play in real time or turn-based games.

While not a board game, I've recently gotten back into Magic The Gathering after a 7 year break.
A friend of mine started a "Gentleman's" magic group with the idea that we shouldn't have to spend a mortgage payment every month to have a good time playing the game.
Entertaining so far, but not sure how long I'll keep up with it.

Dominion might be a better "Gentleman's" deck building game. All the cards are in the box.

For me, I love playing in draft events for Magic. This group gives me the chance to try my hand at some other formats without having to spend a bunch to catch up on all of the popular formats (standard, vintage, etc)

I sold my Magic cards a couple years back to a friend, but I still play every little while. The guy who bought the cards made a dozen or so Highlander decks, and always brings them when we play, so I just pick one and play.

The friend I spoke about is creating a 'cube', which is essentially a large collection of cards that are sorted into 'packs' that you can draft from. So you draft your deck the same way as you would in any normal draft, but you get access to any card in the cube.

Hmm... so I tried a few games of Lost Cities vs the AI, and my initial impressions are that the initial turns are very important to the final outcome, but are also kind of a crapshoot. Is that accurate?

It is also endlessly variable and thus infinitely replayable.
But the best part reason why Dominion trumps Magic in general? No mechanic like the land mechanic where so many games are decided by mana flood or land screw. Richard Garfield designed a great game in Magic but the whole land issue taints the game for me.

Yep I love cube drafting. Well I love drafting Magic in general anyways. My friend has a cube that is proxied with printouts of expensive cards glued to commons. I'm currently on a 2-0 run of winning the cube drafts
I'm still quite keen on that despite preferring dominion in general. Dominion is a better game for 3-4 players IMO. It is playable with 5-6 but I wouldn't recommend it.

If you want a super-fast, aggressive card game, give Warhammer: Invasion a try. Love that game.
