Really looking forward to the premiere this weekend, as everything Matthew McConaughey has touched recently has turned into gold. Then add in Woody Harrelson in on top (who was quite menacing in Out of the Furnace), and you have what looks like it should be a great series.
The premise sounds intriguing too, as anything involving actual detective work can be quite interesting. I am sure the mood and ambiance of New Orleans will really work in the shows favor. Of course it's also on HBO which means anything goes, so it's a must watch for me at least. IGN reviewed the first episode and gave it a 9 out of 10.
I worked on this show in New Orleans. Woody fell off his bike one morning and messed his face up on the gravel. He was so embarrassed, he got up and started swearing at the rocks. "####ing gravel! #### you, gravel!" We all got to go home early and got payed for a full day. Thanks Woody!

But “True Detective” isn’t an ordinary project, and the brilliant results — I’ll have a review of it tomorrow, but it’s among the most gripping shows I’ve watched in years — speak for themselves. Like “American Horror Story,” it’s set up as a collection of anthology seasons, starting off with the tale of Louisana cops Rustin “Rust” Cohle (McConaughey) and Marty Hart (Harrelson) investigating a serial killer case that winds up spanning 17 years, from 1995 until 2012. In Cohle, an impossibly damaged philosopher with an aptitude for this kind of case, Pizzolatto and McConaughey have created a mesmerizing new character, and Harrelson matches his old friend beat for beat as the more straightforward Hart. Not only did Pizzolatto write every episode, but all were directed by Cary Fukunaga (the 2011 “Jane Eyre”), giving the project a unified, tragically beautiful look and feel.
Thanks for posting this… saw the trailers a couple months back and completely forgot about it starting up already. Sunday nights haven’t been the same without Dexter or Breaking Bad.
Gee - I wonder if there will be any male nudity? Probably not. And if there is, it will be some fat, dead slob that no one would ever want to see naked.

Well bloody hell- I pvr'd it and the recording ended before the episode was over. For anyone recording the show later tonight, better extend recording by 5 minutes or so- although its possible the repeat showings start and end on time.
My PVR cut short too. I was kind of thankful in some odd way. It was very draaawwwn. Filming was interesting, acting was ok, scripting was a little to "hollywood" vs a soprano's or breaking bad. 6/10?
^^lol happened to me too! Luckily the repeat episode was on once my recording ended. Def enjoyed the first episode..seems like it's only going to get better!

McConaughey looks anorexic, but I love the role he's playing. A brilliant guy with lots of baggage and different ideas in a small town district, religious south.

Back in present day, MM is still talking with the two detectives and he ends up asking them "what did she look like"? They come back with a case file, in it is a picture of a woman strung up with an antler crown on her head. MM says something along the lines "looks like the girl in 95". "but how could that be if we caught him back in 95?"
Detective asks how
MM replies "then ask the right F'n questions". Show ends.
I know I butchered the exact words, but that should give you some idea of how it ended.
