I had an appointment in the tower at Chinook today so I checked out the LEGO store after
The new medieval blacksmith is in the window display, and it's the coolest looking set in the last 20 years. They were just flying out of the store
I ordered it online yesterday! can't wait to get it.
I really hope they come with some Castle themed Lego sets that don't have IP attached to it. I love Harry Potter and all, but would love to see new castles, or even a Modular Castle Theme.

A new Covid family tradition is building lego sets, and they have been getting bigger and more complicated. I don’t think that I can keep the financial “investment” going!
I checked kijiji, eBay and some intranetz sites, but thought I would ask: are there any used/refurbished sites or vendors that are trusted? We like the architecture ones as a family, and there are some crazy building sets that are plastic bricks from China. Does anyone have experience ordering those or a quality comment? I expect them to be not as good as lego, but just how bad?
Thank you!

I tried some of the Chinese sets, and getting what you pay for is very true. I was not impressed with these Chinese knockoffs.
BrickLink is pretty good for people selling new / used and out of production sets, but the market for older sets (new and used) can be pricey.

Huh the architecture stuff might do pretty well with that knockoff stuff since it's usually not more complicated builds like the X-Wing but just normal blocks and studs.
I might have to try one to see, I did look to see if there was a Colosseum one and there are for like half the price but they don't seem to be complete copies.

I did check to see if they had a knockoff of a set I've been looking for for years, 21101 Hayabusa. My kid wanted one when he was younger, but they're really expensive. But none on Ali Express.

Same. My brother got me the original ISD from Lepin, and it was brutal. Almost none of the bricks felt like they 'fit' well together, and they never seemed to fit snuggly together or hold well together. I ended up giving the set to Value Village, and felt like I was getting the better end of the deal there.

Chinese company that probably supply some of the more well known light kits. Cost me about 1/2 the price and the components look similar.
I'm going to spend some time over the next couple of weeks hooking them up. I re-arranged my modulars around recently. First part will be doing the street lights and seeing how that goes.
Shipping took about a month to come in. Honestly I ordered it knowing there was a chance it might not even show up.
Which you then connect to a USB battery pack or hub of your choice.
You can probably save some money over ordering the kits. I find the kits overly bright as they light up too many things. Moving forward I would only order the Dot lights and not the strip lights.
If I was more handy, I would cut the wire lengths to size.

I picked up the Chinese New Year sets this year. They were really fun to build and the detail is incredible.
Spoiler!
Spoiler!
Now Im trying to track down the ones from previous years, but gotta pay scalper prices on the secondary markets.
I bought the second one for my son, to start building some CNY traditions in my own family. It's hard to build traditions with each subsequent generation. My wife and I grew up with it very prevalent, but being in Regina w not a very big cultural presence, it has been difficult.
