A rule is a rule and if you're going make the decision to allow the review of specific said rules, it needs to be reviewed to get the correct and absolute answer, even if its half an inch offside.
It's not the rule it's the review process that is silly and broken. If you really think they should be stopping the game for that long to determine if a play was 1 frame off side then I dont know what to tell you.

This Wildcard race is pathetic.

Edit: In the west that is.

Jets won 5-1. Who cares about that review.

So Ryan Johansen pulled a Dino Chiccarelli and axe chopped Schiefele in the head. Typical Nashville. Should be a few games for Ryjo.

Toronto scored an empty netter from a clearance that bounced off a microphone taped to the inside of the glass. Do all rinks have these? Seems a little too obstructive to me to be part of the playing area.

Ciccarelli's was quite a bit worse, but Johnasen should still get some time off. Really stupid play.

True, if they're going to have a review system in place, it needs to be carried out correctly.

In these cases, the problem is the offside review itself. Most fans, myself included, want to see more offence and fewer delays. The offside review does absolutely nothing to promote offence - it does the opposite, as its only purpose is to determine whether to disallow a goal.

It's gone overboard. Hopefully GM's will pressure the league to get rid of this nonsencial offside review. If the officials make the odd mistake (and this being the NHL, they will) on an offside, so be it.

Linesmen will catch any signicantly offside play. If a play is so minutely offside that a linesman didn't catch it, it's not offside IMO.

Agreed. End the video review of offside.

And go back to fans screaming that a goal should have been disallowed because slo-mo replay showed a player was offside by a hair? The whole reason the NHL implemented offside video review was because of uproar over offside goals, especially in the playoffs. They're in a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" scenario now

Here’s my take on how the NHL should deal with the video-called offside because the player’s skate was a millimeter off the ice on the blue line:
1. The NHL should accept the fact that the linesmen will occasionally miss calling a borderline offside; and
2. Let the call on the ice stand, unless video review shows the player in question was ≥ one metre offside.

This is even worse. In principle, I get what you are saying, but instituting rules to mandate a "grey area" would essentially mean that players start cheating like crazy at the blue line, and then coaches challenge everything that looks like it might be out of the grey-zone. It's a terrible idea.

The best way to solve the issue is to have dedicated cameras and off-ice officials who monitor every entry in real time. Take it out of the hands of the coach to challenge. If a goal happens to be scored the off-ice official can call it off if it is clearly off-side. This would significantly reduce the delays, and it would provide greater consistency to how these plays are called.
