Did the Fresh Prince of Laforge even have a line other than commenting on guns and shooting?
Did Issac even have a single line? I think his costume was set up empty so the actor could have a week off.
To save costs, they do multiple episodes at a time. It wouldn’t surprise me if they shot various scenes from different episodes in the same room on that same day, Like Claire’s doctors office or the engineering room
To me, I was screaming that she was a traitor since she came on the Orville (thanks a lot IMDB).
I think everyone knows me by now, I'm a bit of a slow burn type of guy. Instead this felt rushed, they could have really built the relation ship for a few episodes while she was actively betraying Ed. then the reveal would have had more meaning.
I did like the relationship stuff, but you know what I liled better? Gordon taking the command test, for some reason I really liked the psych test, and that he was using it as a way to pick of chicks because he really doesn't see value in who he is now.
It was a pretty decent episode, but it could have been so much more.

Yeah , I agree on the slow burn. An episode like that should be at the earliest, mid season. Having her make various small appearances in the season would accentuate Ed’s heartbreak in this episode.
What raises a bigger question is how the Krill managed to infiltrate the Union ranks that easily, not to mention how much spying Teleya had done while on board the Orville.
I didn't have as much of a problem with that episode as some of you and actually liked how they didn't bother to built up the story over half a season or go into many scientific details. The writers established the relationship at the start of the episode and that was enough for me to enjoy things. There was no need to waste time and cut into other story lines by stretching this out. Comparing to Discovery, their similar story had all this build up over most of a season it but it ended up feeling like a big waste of time with little payoff.
Also, Malloy is one of the funniest characters on television. Any episode where he has a big role is a good episode for me.

Somewhere a long the line this series that was science fiction light and meant to make a fun Star Trek series has evolved into a really well written, intelligent science fiction show.
I've had lot of favorite episodes, the one where people were judged on social media. The episode where Alara left, the episode where Ed and Gordon infiltrated the Krill ship. But I came out of this episode saying to myself that this was almost a perfect episode.

First of all I loved the opening with the alien species sending their first message into space and it was a simple "Is anyone out there".
What made it better is that when Ed announced first contact you saw the excitement and anticipation of the crew, that this was what they lived for.
Unfortunately nothing is ever perfect, and this show points out the difference between the Federation and the Union. The Federation has the Prime Directive, you can't influence culture or evolution of a species. Meanwhile the Union just barges in as the welcoming committee to the galaxy without knowing anything about the culture or the species.
And that's where they got into trouble.
The premise of a planet governed by astrological signs, where babies born under the wrong sign are condemned to lives in a concentration camp where a baby born under the right sign gets the life of leadership and privileged. This was a neat way of getting around the touchy subject of religious prosectution, but yeah, we were all saying the same thing. Holy crap these are space nazi's, and they did it well. From the high collared uniforms to the massive gatherings in the public square for speeches, to the bigoted sentiments of the leadership and the prison guards. This was a neat premise executed well.
I don't think I need to get into super detail on the plot points. But from the action sequence of the attempted prison break, to the heart break of the mother having the baby taken away, they hit all of the high points and hit them well.
I've noticed that they've really dialed back a lot of the off the cuff zany dialogue. They still throw it in, but they don't want it to overlay the plot or the development of characters. I mean I loved the joint birthday party stuff between Kelly and Bortas. And I loved seeing the Orville flying majestically into space while Celebration by cool and the gang played. But we don't get a lot of throw away humor.
Instead we get smart dialog, solid characters and really good plots.
I also wanted to address the new security chief. I really liked that this new security chief Talla is a opposite of Alara who I really liked. While Alara was like a unsure teenager who was really brave and heroic. Talla just seems to have a harder edge and is extremely confident in herself. The scene where she grabbed the doctor by the throat and held him up on the wall was a great one note introduction to that character.
Overall this was a great fun episode.
But its funny we're into the 4th episode and no sign of Norm McDonald. BtBut they did have Ted Danson.

I agree with all of this, and this was the best of season two thus far, except for the brutal plot hole:

After Mercer went back to try to talk reason with buddy (can't remember his exact title) and was told (paraphrasing) "If space is full of people that just accept chaos then we don't want to be a part of it. Take you ship and never return," Mercer could of easily said "sure, and we'll leave a buoy in orbit warning anyone else to stay away as well and we will never come back. Now give us our people or we take them by force." I'm sure they could of managed it that way killing a lot less (if any) people than Kelly and Bortus did during the prison break. Phasers have a stun setting, guns do not. The story logic makes no sense.
And also, those specific constellations in their specific configuration as seen from that planet's surface only work from the view of that planet's surface. I am sure given their level of technology that they would understand, and seeing as both Kelly and Bortus were obvious born across the galaxy they obviously would not have been subject to being born under that constellation.

I'm sure Kelly and Bortus knew they weren't supposed to kill about 40 people trying to escape. And also, when the straw that breaks the camel's back is a baby being taken OUT of the prison, from prisoners who believe they're supposed to be there anyway, so that it could have a privileged, wonderful life I can't buy in. The real hero of this episode was the baby's father.
Second point. Here on earth (in reality) we figured out stars and planets well enough to understand the perspective of the stars would change depending on where and when they were being viewed before we invented electricity. That society was extremely advanced compared that, so I find it difficult to believe they couldn't of built some telescopes and done some actual research.
I think a closer comparison of that society was if the Nazi's hadn't been defeated, or the reformation of the church had never happened and ideology dominated over science. It would be easy to apply that to everything they encounter including whole other species.
It wouldn't be hard to envision a human race where they never got passed the idea that the galaxy orbited the earth.

I realize this is a Tv show but I can’t get over that in a landing party, especially in a first contact situation, that they put the Captain, the 1st officer, the 2nd officer and The fourth in command, the security chief. WHO’S IN CHARGE BACK ON THE ORVILLE?!
At least on TNG, They kept it true having Picard commanding the ship while Riker led the away teams
TNG was terrible for sending thier whole command crew on away missions. Remember the Episode where the Borg captured pretty much the whole command crew, Data was evil and Riker was wandering around on the planet looking for a white castle.
Enterprise believe it or not was one of the best shows for this because they had the MACO's on board who would provide security and striking party for the away teams.

He was on very briefly two weeks ago, in one scene - I think when Alara was having the arm-wrestling competition iirc
We're going to leave the ship to the Ships Councillor to run. Its always been my one source of eye rolling removal from disbelief.
That and having the Captain in phaser fights. He's the tactical and strategic head in any operation, not the point man in an infantry company.
That and having the Captain and XO always being on the same shift. Usually they try not to do that unless they're in a combat situation in the real world, its how an XO develops his command style, by not having the Captain around all the time.
Its just like, I wonder what people's jobs are on the enterprise. Whenever they take a shuttle out there's never a designated pilot, the Captain or whatever is flying the ship. I wonder how disgruntled the rest of the crew is about never being able to do things because the Captain and the command crew are complete glory hogs.
"Yeah Bob look at how respected and decorated our command crew is"
"Yeah that's great because they hog all of the assignments that we should get because we're trained soldiers and scientists and pilots too. No wonder nobody gets promoted on this stupid ship"

I know their budget isn't huge and some suspension of disbelief is required, but I had to laugh out loud when I saw that this barbaric planet's interment camp was built out of plywood. That made TOS set design look amazing in comparison
