Default Josh Jooris signs with Lausanne HC in Switzerland (3 yrs)

http://www.lausannehc.ch/19871-2/?ut...medium=ios_app

Played last year with the Toronto Marlies. Jooris has recorded 23 goals and 55 points in 213 games with Calgary, the New York Rangers, Arizona, Carolina, and Pittsburgh between 2014 and 2018. Jooris recorded 16 goals and 21 assists in 119 games over two seasons with the Flames between 2014 and 2016, setting career-highs with 12 goals, 12 assists, 24 points, and 60 games played in his rookie 2014-15 season. He also played all 9 of his career playoff games that year, recording no points.

Best of luck to Jooris overseas.

Good for him. He lived the dream of playing in the NHL.

He was the poster boy for Hartley’s ‘always earned, never given’ and potted 12 for the good guys as a rookie.

(Looking at you, James Neal)

Hope he enjoys Europe

What's the average dollar value on a hockey contract in Europe? Still better than an average salary for working folks like us?

Just searching around quick, the salaries in the Swiss league range from 80k to 450k, so he's still going to get pretty nice pay plus he gets to explore Europe for a few years.

The Swiss League circuit has a pretty small footprint geographically (unlike the KHL for instance). Can't be a lot of overnight travel for those guys. The most distant rivals, Lugano to Biel is a three hour trip.

Great if you have family.

A friend of the family had their son (Josh Holden) play for 13 years in the Swiss league and is now an assistant coach.

What a coincidence. I know Josh Holden's dad as well.

I have friends that went to Germany and Switzerland to play. Easy schedule, amazing countries, still good money. Not a bad way to live for a few years that's for sure. Congrats Jooris!

With the emergence of hockey in France I can see a new pro euro league involving France, Switzerland, Germany, Czechia, Austria and Italy very soon.

A euro wide pro League minus Russia would be awesome

In his rookie year, I believe Jooris scored the majority of his 12 goals playing with some undersized winger named Johnny...

Once Gaudreau got elevated to play with Monahan and Hudler, his offence basically disappeared. Considering he was an undrafted UFA he did well for himself though; I was a fan of his and it seemed like he was well liked in the room.

Also helped bring us this gem:

You mean the biggest league other than the NHL?

I had a buddy a long while ago who went and played in England in the 80's.

Pretty good gig. He and IIRC 2 other guys from Canada were given room and board and a europass. Not paid huge money but decent and had almost zero overhead.

They would play Friday and Saturday nights, leave on the train to where ever in Europe from Sunday til Wednesday while the rest of the team practiced, practice on Thursday and then start the cycle over again.

I think he scored 200 points in 50 games over 3 seasons.

Champions Hockey League already exists. Doubt there will be another.

Can I ask the name of said player? As a fan in England, that went to a lot of hockey in the 80's (damm showing my age) would be interested if I saw him.

Good for him. Not the most talented guy, but he worked hard and was an easy guy to root for when he played for the Flames.

He's scratched out a solid pro hockey career. 200+ NHL games. A couple million in earnings. Full NHL pension. A couple more years living it up in Switzerland.
