There aren't really any big names right not and some of the Americans are struggling so viewership struggles. Americans are very much pro-USA when it comes to viewership I guess.

I find it fascinating the number of non-American female golfers on the LPGA vs. The number of non American male golfers. Not sure what the reasoning for that is, you would expect all things being equal that the numbers would be roughly the same. And maybe there are if you look at the lists top to bottom, maybe it's the golfers in the very top of each tour that are what stand out. It just seems when you watch an LPGA tour vs the PGA there seem to be way more US flags on the PGA tour when the leaderboard is shown.

They put all their eggs in Michelle Wie and when she didn't pan out the sport died.

Brooks Koepka not making a lot of friends in Canada with these remarks heading into todays 1st round of the Canadian Open..
Quote:
"It doesn't really matter about the result. I couldn't care less what happens," the American said on Wednesday at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ontario, a comment that will not win any prizes for diplomacy.
"It's just how I feel I've played, am I hitting enough good shots and really finding a rhythm?
"I just want to feel good going into next week."
"As long as I can leave feeling confident, striking the ball very well, starting it where I want to, finishing where I want to, hit some good putts, it doesn't matter if they go in or not, I just want to feel confident leaving."
|
Contrast that with what Rory had to say about his first trip to the country's biggest golfing event of the year.
Quote:
"This isn't just a preparation week. This is a very prestigious tournament, one of the oldest tournaments in the world that I would dearly love to be able to add my name to," said McIlroy, who has never played a competitive tournament in Canada. "I'm fully focused on this week, but knowing that if I play well here, this week, and have good control of my ball and my distance control, that will serve me well going into next week. "

This is an incredible field considering what we've been used to being slotted in after the British Open.

3 Canadians in the top 9 after the third round. Hadwin one back of the threeway tie for the lead. Hughes is 4 shots back. Taylor one behind that after a three over day.

That was a very good showing by Hamilton. I'd much rather the Canadian Open stay there, as apparently the players do, too.
Hughes and Hadwin with really strong play, but Rory just annihilated the final day. Can't believe he botched that last approach to steal the chance at 59. So close.

The crowds were incredible, with Rory strongly stating he's back next year. Also, the strongest field in Canadian Open history.
I actually cringed a little minutes after Rory won when the crowd started chanting "Let's go Raptors!" during his interview with Amanda. But he and Amanda were both laughing and it turns out he went to game one in Toronto and was fully engrained in the Raptors run and loved the fans chanting.

I know Glen Abbey is great, but there's just something about Hamilton. That amphitheater style 18th hole with thousands of fans is really special. Gives the tournament a 'big event' feel to it.
The course as a whole just looks really nice on TV, too. Visually I'd put it up there with some of America's best, with the lush grass and thick, old growth trees everywhere.

Other big winner this weekend was Graham McDowell finishing eighth and qualifying for the British Open at his home course in Portrush.

Loved the 13th hole with the goalie masks as tee box markers and hockey boards surrounding it. Quintessentially Canadian and the CBS commentators even referred to those spectators as being at the rink rather than part of the gallery.

He had to make a 30 foot putt on 18th to do it too. Nice to see Adam Hadwin get a spot too.

With scores like this its hard to believe this is a US Open. Koepka and Woodland are making birdies every hole.

Brooks transformation into prime Tiger at the majors really is something.
