The Flames 3rd jersey does have potential to be a gigantic money-maker. This is a team with 80s heritage, a cool name, awesome palette and they're going to be fun to watch.

Maybe money is what gets through to them:
"Hey Ken, re-design your primaries with a better palette (retros will do just fine), and then start PRINTING MONEY every year you roll out a new 3rd jersey"

As long as the primaries look good, I WANT cowboy shoulders, flaming horses, pedestals and the like on 3rd jerseys. They're meant to be cool, and unique. Just stop wearing garbage nightly, with the occasional tease to fans of what it'd be like if our team looked good.

A licence to print money and an engaged fan base won't be helpful for the Flames when the "Ken King spotted in Houston looking at free arenas because nobody cares about us in Calgary" bargaining chip gets played in the next round of arena negotiations.

I'm not actually that cynical. Close, but not quite.

Some type of word mark will always be their logo to me.

True, the current logo is more of the outlier. Misery loves company though, and I'm in a dark place. Jersey wise.

Why? At the STH sessions in June, Ken King all but confirmed the Flames will be wearing a retro third this year.

So much good about this for Winnipeg though!

First off, hopefully this is the end of this awful wordmark:

as this one they're speculating on looks pretty darn good.

And hopefully this also means the return of the original palette. I can't say that I've loved the Jets current set too much, and would love a little heritage to start getting the juices flowing on a rebrand over there.

But it is nice to know we aren’t the only fan base who ownership refuses to give what they want. Jets fans are desperate to go back to this jersey and ownership seems determined to deny them.

Because we think they’ll fumble it and not put the Flaming C on it. Which is the best part of the retros.

Why would anyone think such a thing? The wordmark jerseys were so poorly received that they dropped them as soon as they could.

Worrying about the Flames not wearing the Flaming C makes as much sense as worrying that Hanifin wasn't going to sign.

Well... they generally haven’t used the Flaming C on their 3rds. We have about a 50/50 shot.

But in a way, the ownership group did give Jets fans what they want. TNSE was pretty reluctant on naming the Winnipeg franchise the Jets again. From my memory, it was a well known fact that they also didn't even want to use Winnipeg, but instead wanted to use Manitoba in the name. I used to be part of the Return Of The Jets forum back in the day. Lots of info leaked on that message board so I think there was quite a bit of truth in that. But yes I do agree that they should go back to their original colours from the original Jets franchise.

My opinion is that it is mostly ego from the owners. They didn’t want the Jets, that was someone else’s team. To properly stroke their own egos they needed to bring in a new team, with a new name, with new colours. Prove they could build their own brand.

Except people didn’t want that and the owners settled with Jets, similar colours but new logo and jerseys. Then they dragged their heels forever on bringing back retros.

Of course another big part of it was money. They needed to wait long enough for fans to cave and buy the new logo version. Now that that version is tapped they can start introducing a third. It’s just mind boggling that it isn’t another retro. Maybe saving it for another heritage classic or something.

If they are just having the one retro this year, I feel they should change it up and give us the White retro this time around. Then go full time retro home and away next season and beyond.

I feel like they would market the red better over a road white third, we'd see maybe once or twice live in Calgary.
