Mason McDonald. Seems like a really great kid and I always wanted to see him take that next step. I also like that he has dropped the mitts twice since going pro.

John Gilmour. Saw a lot of a young Mark Giordano in his play. Still think he has potential to become an excellent performer on the back end, playing solid defense and adding offense to his team.

Kotalik, haha. One of the better goal songs.. still pissed that he broke both his knees in an Edmonton preseason game. If anyone has a flames Kotalik jersey I'd take it

Edit - not a prospect.. was more of a reclamation project but whateva!

I watched a lot of Providence games his first season with Gillies and Jankowski. He frequently caught my eye, so I was glad to see the Flames draft him the next year.

I was disappointed when he wasn't even offered a contract, although it's hard to see where he'd fit on the depth chart right now. It's great to see he got into almost 30 games for the Rangers last season. That's already a lot better than many Flames picks over the years.

As I guy growing up playing mostly goalie, I wanted Irving and Taylor to succeed.

Igor Karpenko - he starred in goal for Ukraine during the 1995 World Juniors that Calgary co-hosted so I was excited when he joined the Flames. He ended up getting called up to take the warm-up during the injury nightmare season in 1999 the Flames had because the other goalie they were trying to recall was late getting to the game.

Levente Szuper was another of the Euro goalies I was interested in following. He was the first Hungarian player to be on an NHL team when the Flames called him up after Turek got injured. Sat on the bench for 9 games, never made an appearance and was never heard from again.

Markus Granlund as I thought he was quite underrated and was going to develop into an NHL goal scorer.

He's doing OK but not really blossoming in Vancouver so perhaps I was the one overrrating him.

Was that the one going like 6 feet wide from center ice, where he went out to grab it out of the air and it deflected off his glove diagonally back into the net?

For reasons I do not know, Rocky Thompson and Keegan Kanzig are those guys for me. I even on occasion look up what Rocky Thompson is up to coaching wise.

in my 2 years of being vested in Flames prospects, my faves were: Cam Cunning, Warren Peters, David Van Der Gulik, Carsen Germyn, and Brett Palin.

I hoped Cunning would get a call up. He was my favorite baby Flame. He had tons of jam and in his Abbottsford years even put up some points. Peters was the captain and I didn't see the NHL upside much though he managed to just about hit 100 NHL games with other teams. VDG didn't stand out much when here, but similar to Peters, managed to carve out a decent amount of NHL time. Germyn and Palin had no real NHL upside but played hard down here and earned lots of love from the fans.

The biggest surprise from the QC era had to be Adam Cracknell. I didn't include him on my list as at the time I didn't care for him. He was in the ECHL QC's first year and the second year he was meh and hogged the puck a lot. He's managed to break 200 games with 21/22/43.
