Pascal on 960 says no decisions have been made on PTOs for the Flames. Says decisions likely made in the next week to 10 days.

with the main group in China, I suspect potential PTO's will be reluctant to try out here, which is fine by me. They just muddy the waters

On the other hand, if someone signs a PTO in Calgary, they know they'll get a chance to play in the preseason games when the main group is in China. When you're on a PTO, you're not just auditioning for the team you're with, you're auditioning for every team that might offer you a contract.

Look at Versteeg two years ago. Was on a PTO with the Oilers during the preseason, then signed with the Flames.

Agreed. Let the new coach come in and get the real players playing together ASAP. No distractions.

In their 20 year old seasons, Eichel had 57 pts in 61 games (.93 PPG) and Draisaitl had 51 pts in 72 games (.71 PPG) and was being compared to Eichel by absolutely no one.

It was only in his 3rd year, playing largely with McDavid, that Draisaitl put up big points, and his contract, after that season, was well above those of his peers.

Having to try and compare Eichel to him in order to show that Chia didn't overpay, illustrates in itself how much Chia overpaid.
I wasn't comparing each players ability in terms of their relative ages, I was comparing how they were paid as a result of their production in their contract seasons.

Until Draisaitl is separated from McDavid and puts up 50 points in a full season, the argument that he isn't worth his contract as it stands is speculative.

Why not TJ Brodie for William Nylander?

The Flames will have to make room for at least one (if not two) of Kylington, Andersson and Välimäki.

Hanifin - Hamonic
Giordano - ______
______ - Stone

7th D Kulak/Prout/Högström/Healey

Brodie from Chatham-Kent, Nylander from Calgary. That alone should be a good starting point!

Bridie for Nylander then a package of one of Bennett/janko + for a goalie then bring up valimaki to replace Brodie.

The Flames would have to add to both deals but it would make the team twice as good

Valimaki is a left D. I would hesitate to put a recent pro and rookie NHL defenseman on the opposite side, especially in the top 2 pairings.

The Flames would have to get an NHL-ready top 4 right D back in order to trade Brodie.

I would do it but I doubt TO does..we would be pretty thin if an injury occurs to the top pairs but we would have an elite offence with 2 RH shots in the top 6!

Sidenote - Unfortunately I highly doubt Healey will ever be an NHL option. Högström is a long shot as well but probably has a better chance of sticking as a 6/7.

What goalie is available that would be worth trading Janko or Bennett for?

I'm as worried about a Smith injury/collapse as the next guy but we need to see what we have in Gillies, Rittich and Parsons before we go acquiring something from the outside.

That is unless a can't miss youngster becomes available - I just don't see that guy being available at the moment

If we want a veteran back-up, Kari Lehtonen might be worth a PTO.

Brodie was just terrible last year, he won’t be the centrepiece for Nylander.
